Strong storms hit the UK in the build-up to Christmas, with a river bursting its banks causing the damage to Hello Games office, water damage destroying the dev teams PCs and monitors…
Hello Games seemed to be trying to remain chipper about the situation, tweeting on Christmas Day; “A lifesize cardboard cut out of Joe Danger went floating past face down. Poor Joe. He's taking this the worst,” “A river broke its bank nearby yesterday, and A LOT of water flooded in really quickly. A biblical amount. It was coming in the windows!"
Among the damaged items were the teams PCs, monitors, a massive retro console and game collection, and even a wall. The massive damaged seemed bad enough but it’s also become apparent that insurance won’t cover any of it, “BAD NEWS! Had a 'hilarious' call with insurer yesterday. Small print is if you are in a flood risk zone, you are not insured for flooding :(“
This will come undoubtedly come as a big blow to the development of No Man’s Sky, it’s unknown at the moment how badly the flooding will have affected the development of the game but the lack of insurance does have a silver lining, meaning the team can get straight to work sorting things out.
We’ll update you as soon as we know how severe the effects are for the status of the game’s development.
Looking forward to No Man’s Sky?
Would you be willing to back No Man’s Sky to help out the now struggling developers?
