It would be nice to be sceptical about a rumour such as The Division being delayed but its all too believable considering how little we have seen of the game and following Ubisoft’s other high-profile postponements.
Still, it appears as if sources from yonder Sweden way where the game is being stitched together are saying that the ever-busy development team has got no hope of hitting Ubisoft's ‘laughable’ release date…
Little has been seen or heard of The Division since its exceptional showing at E3, a rare surprise in what is normally a sea of predictability. Except for that Snowdrop Engine showcase that thinking back dropped a telling hint that developer Ubisoft Massive were beavering away on the new engine first and foremost, with the game coming later.
A mysterious ‘source’ said to Swedish gaming site Game Reactor “The game engine works well, it is not clear but works well. Actual game development has barely begun, however.” Things don’t really get any better from there really, with the source going on to say that "The fact that Ubisoft issued a 2014 release date seems laughable if I'll be completely honest, we will never have time to release The Division this year. This is a big project, we have very far to go..."
Ubisoft has been hit by a number of setbacks as of late when it comes to delays, with the French publisher taking the brave step of admitting that when games weren’t good enough it was willing to admit as much and push them back. This saw high-profile releases such as Watch Dogs, South Park: The Stick of Truth and The Crew pushed back to a 2014 release just weeks before launch.
Do you think The Division looks far enough along to make its 2014 release date?
Will a number of big Ubisoft releases force them to push other titles back regardless?
