The Division Rumoured To Face Delay Until 2015

It would be nice to be sceptical about a rumour such as The Division being delayed but its all too believable considering how little we have seen of the game and following Ubisoft’s other high-profile postponements.

Still, it appears as if sources from yonder Sweden way where the game is being stitched together are saying that the ever-busy development team has got no hope of hitting Ubisoft's ‘laughable’ release date…

Little has been seen or heard of The Division since its exceptional showing at E3, a rare surprise in what is normally a sea of predictability. Except for that Snowdrop Engine showcase that thinking back dropped a telling hint that developer Ubisoft Massive were beavering away on the new engine first and foremost, with the game coming later.

A mysterious ‘source’ said to Swedish gaming site Game Reactor “The game engine works well, it is not clear but works well. Actual game development has barely begun, however.” Things don’t really get any better from there really, with the source going on to say that "The fact that Ubisoft issued a 2014 release date seems laughable if I'll be completely honest, we will never have time to release The Division this year. This is a big project, we have very far to go..."

Ubisoft has been hit by a number of setbacks as of late when it comes to delays, with the French publisher taking the brave step of admitting that when games weren’t good enough it was willing to admit as much and push them back. This saw high-profile releases such as Watch Dogs, South Park: The Stick of Truth and The Crew pushed back to a 2014 release just weeks before launch.

Do you think The Division looks far enough along to make its 2014 release date?

Will a number of big Ubisoft releases force them to push other titles back regardless?

Well hopefully they do a good job on the game, but it seems to be a trend in Ubisoft games lately.

Good! I hope the developer actually takes their time and delivers on what they set out to achieve. No more of this; release an unfinished game and fix it later with patches... looking your way Battlefield 4.

I was actually really looking forward to this, so if we have to wait for another year that'll suck.

Because games take time buddy. They gave a release date because at that time it seemed like they could do it, now they realized they probably can't. Do you want a good game or a half-assed game? Sit down, shut up and stop complaining.

Better safe than sorry. I don't have a problem with delaying games as long as the release date was not two weeks more like what happened to Watchdogs. Exceptionally, delaying Watchdogs didn't annoy me for I still don't possess the gear to run it :) I just recommend that Ubisoft doesn't announce a game until they are sure they can manage the "laughable" release date. Regardless, I don't think this will cause any harm to Ubisoft's reputation.

No, a delay is allways for a reason and it's a desision that is never taken lightly. A delay costs money and that's bad for buisness. Ubisoft has a valid reason for this desision.

polishing does not take 2 years at least we r not fools !...if they r not ready for the release why they r giving such dates for release after then those dates r coming they r delaying !....its not that easy...there is something happening their mind...they r doing same things for every game...from late 2013 they just care a damn about game or gamers...money is the main thing here...they realized those specs will be too early for 2014..and to sale next gen hard ware..
