CD Projekt RED Tease High System Requirements For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Bad news PC gaming fans, for Cd Projekt RED’s Marcin Iwinski has warned that you’re going to want to get busy upgrading if you want any chance of playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The latest iteration of The Witcher franchise is very close to maxing out both the Xbox One’s and the Playstation 4’s capabilities, with the PC release set to need some hefty requirements if you’re going to be wanting it looking anywhere near its best…

When quizzed on what sort of PC system requirements are going to be needed to run The Witcher III on higher settings Iwinski laughed and said; "We’ll be releasing that information soon, but you can already start saving up for an upgrade.

When it comes to the latest console’s from Microsoft and Sony, it appears that CD Projekt RED is already stretching these consoles almost to their limits, just months after release. Iwinski said; “It is extremely manageable. There is a lot of power in these machines, and I don’t want to say we’re using them to their capacity, but we’re fairly close to doing so."

He continued; “We made a decision to go next-gen roughly two and a half years ago, so we’ve spent a lot of time with these machines, and it’s been a great experience across all three platforms. On the old platforms, namely the Xbox 360 and PS3, we probably would have had to sacrifice nearly half of our vision.

We’re expecting system requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt imminently from CD Projekt RED. What sort of setup do you think is going to be needed to get this gorgeous looking game running smoothly?

Do you think the home consoles are becoming underpowered too early in their life cycle, in five years time will they be light years behind PC gaming performance?

Let us know your thoughts!

Si it's going to take a 2000$ bucks rig to make it run with the same graphics of a 400$ bucks console?

Not necessarily 2000$, but, yeah, a bit more would be required because games are heavily optimized for consoles and console does not need to run a demanding OS in the background as the PC has.

So how my rig will handle this if:
1.Bad optimize
2.Good optimize

I would take this with a grain of salt, since it's mostly exclusive games developed for only one of the consoles that are able to use the console to it's max capacity.

The witcher 2 was a very demanding game(and it wasn't optimized well), i am not suprised and i wonder how far the devs can go in terms of graphics.

why so much blabber? they already said months ago they already pushed so called "next-gen" consoles to their very limits, so one can expect the game won't be maxed with Core2Duo and GTX220 :P
I'm almost sure they'll put i7-3770 and GTX770 and 12GB ram as recommended requirements (yay, luckily I have those:)

I wouldn't worry. Everyone with 780s and 290s that are scared are either totally oblivious to what their cards can do, or they're simply attention wh**es. These people are the only downside of this website. Whining if their 2000$ PC will or will not run a game. There is no cure for stupidity... So chin up! :)

I really hope so. I just bought this rig 3 months ago & right now the only thing I could upgrade is the CPU to an i7-4930MX. Not much of a difference really except the i7-4930MX can be OCed up to almost 30%. My i7-4900MQ is actually already OCed to it's limit at 3.991GHz. The i7-4930MX can be OCed to 4.3GHz

I am not getting my hopes up, but at least my rig should still be enough to play it very well. ;) I actually do think that I will be able to max it out easy enough, but the question is at what fps. 30+fps? 40+fps? That is the real questiion. I am sure settings will have to be tweak for me to get a stable 60fps. ;)

it would be extremely surprising if the consoles stay magically up to date until they get replaced by a newer gen. they already are weaker than a good pc. next year, they will be outdated again.
i guess the requirements for witcher 3 would be around a i5 4670k and a gtx 780(ti)/r9 290x

I have a good feeling that 780/290 will be required to run high - ultra settings. The trailer had some amazing graphics and would be surprised if anything less could handle those settings. Of course, that's not to say that it's not possible

My rig can barely run TW2 with Uber-Sampling enabled. Theres no need to warn about it, we already know. Btw, if Iwinski warn PC user to upgrade. That's mean, PC low graphic setting = Console version? eh? ehh?

Enough for ubsersampling but not enough to satisfy me. Theres some graphic lag and mouse lag when I enable it.

Ubersampling is a huge drain on the gpu, especially for a game that looks as good as The Witcher 2. Even when I had a single 780, certain areas would lag quite badly. It takes 780 sli @1200p to get constant 60fps with ubersampling enabled.

Some months ago (not that many) CD Projekt RED said that they aim to optimize TW3, so that you could play it on GeForce 300 series GPU. Sounds very fair to me.

I think your friends are right. I remember Sony & Microsoft comparing their APU to a FX8150 CPU with a Radeon HD 7850. The reality of it is that they are actually using a custom A10 APU. The PS4 is supposed to be clocked a little higher & have better RAM(GDDR5), but most hardware in both consoles are almost identical

Definitely don't need more ram or a better cpu that should be enough. As for the gpu.. if the game is well optimized for both nvidia and radeon I'm guessing that you will max settings at 40+ fps as long as you keep AA on the lower side..

Consoles aren't -becoming- underpowered, they were underpowered long before they were ever even released. Entry-level gaming PC's in the sub-600$ range are more than enough to outclass the PS4 and X-One in terms of hardware power. The advantage the consoles have is that their specs are static; games can be tailored directly to a console since they're all pretty much the same, while PC's have a much wider range of setups.

1

20:43 Jan-23-2014

The reason consoles succeed is due in part to their pricing, and their ease of use. Building a good gaming PC for 400-500$ is somewhat difficult, and that's if you know what you're doing, meaning the average user would be at a complete loss. Then there is the ease of actually using the system. Take a console home, plug it in, turn it on. There are, of course, patches and updates, and information to fill out, but it's simple enough that a small child could manage it easily.
