After news of a rather unpleasant (not to mention utterly ridiculous) legal case against The Banner Saga by Candy Crush creators King last month, fans of the Kickstarted hit have something to celebrate. The team at Stoic Games have taken to their site blog and Facebook page to confirm that they are beginning work on the second game in the series after a “short hiatus”.
The news of legal action - centred around the use of the word “Saga” in the game’s title - was concerning to many after it was suggested that work on the second instalment of The Banner Saga could be stopped due to the legal proceedings. The game is projected to be a trilogy...
However, Stoic assured fans last night that work on the next game will commence soon. They went on to thank fans for the support they have received since the game was released, as well as taking a not-so-subtle jibe at Candy Crush Saga creators King.
"Aside from the relief that comes with knowing that we'll be able to keep working at Stoic for a long time to come, what has been really rewarding is the individuals who write to us saying things like "No game has ever been more worthy of the title 'Saga'. A saga is something epic, something that will linger in the minds and memories of people for years to come. For that is what The Banner Saga is, a little slice of perfection that nobody else can spoil."
We were big fans of The Banner Saga when we reviewed it last month, calling it "a compelling, fantastically written and beautiful game that makes you care deeply about the actions you take, whilst reminding you powerfully of the thanklessness of leadership in a difficult and dangerous world".
