Thief may have garnered more mixed reviews than you can shake a blackjack at, but that hasn’t stopped it from storming the charts in good old Blighty.
During its first week on sale in the UK it’s managed to top the charts, overhauling the mighty FIFA 14 and becoming the UK’s second best-selling number 1 so far this year. In fact, in the words of UKIE GfK Chart-Track, it has “smashed” the week one numbers attained by its predecessor Thief: Deadly Shadows back in 2004….
The traditionally PC-oriented franchise saw PS4 and Xbox One sales accounting for 75% of its total, no doubt helped by its almost perfect timing, smack bang in the middle of the dreaded post-launch drought. Thief has traditionally been quite a niche product, but the reboot seems to have bucked the trend in finding commercial success, during its first week at least.
Thief had some competition for the top spot too, with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare also hitting store shelves last week. While PvZ:GW gained a fairly impressive fourth spot in the charts, Lords of Shadow 2 staggered in at a disappointing 10. This is down on the original’s first week, so this could be a bad showing for the already-struggling Konami.
Have any of you GDers picked up Thief?
