If there’s one thing the world needs it’s more candy. Bucketloads of it. Pumpkinloads even. Look, Tim Schafer agrees with me. That’s why Double Fine have only gone and announced their first ever sequel, Costume Quest 2.

The saccharine-sweet original had you traipsing around a suburban neighbourhood on Halloween night, trick or treating and battling monsters in order to track down your kidnapped sibling. It sounds simple, but if the creators of Broken Age, Psychonauts and Brutal Legend have taught us anything, it’s expect everything…

Expected to arrive in time for Halloween this year, Costume Quest 2 will be coming to both PC and consoles thanks to a newfound partnership between Double Fine and indie publisher Midnight City.

Costume Quest 2 holds the esteemed title of being Double Fine's first ever sequel, and will once again feature the star's of the original game, Wren and Reynold, as they head out into their suburban neighbourhood for a spot of trick or treating.

Double Fine head honcho Tim Schafer is promising that Costume Quest 2 will feature an improved battle system as well as a host of new costumes. The costumes form the basis of Costume Quest 2's battle system, with different costumes providing different powers, so dressing up as a dragon for example can allow you to breath fire.

For the last couple of years, whenever Halloween came around, I felt like something was missing,” said Double Fine founder Tim Schafer. “No matter how many pumpkins I carved, apples I bobbed, or candy I ate, it just couldn't fill the big spooky hole inside of me. But then I realized what was missing: I needed more Costume Quest. And also, I really wanted a T-Shirt with glowing skulls on it.

Will another Costume Quest be a trick or a treat?

What are you hoping for next from Schafer’s extremely productive studio?
