We already know that The Witcher 3 is going to look sublime, but CD Projekt RED claim that developing with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in mind has meant that they can push the visuals to the next level.
Previous The Witcher titles have certainly been no slouches in the graphics department, but the visuals in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are set to be the largest leap yet, with particle physics and environmental effects in particular leading to one of the most immersive games we’ve ever seen…
CD Projekt RED’s global head of marketing Tomasz Jarzębowski stated in an interview that the step up to the next generation is primarily responsible for the huge bump in visual fidelity, saying "Because we are developing the game for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, we go nuts in terms of visuals. We want the game to look as beautiful as possible. I think we are in a good moment, we don't have to choose between better graphics or performance on either PC or consoles now, we can just create the best looking game possible."
What this means for performance on PC is anybody’s guess, but we anticipate The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt system requirements will be some of the most demanding yet seen. In terms of the consoles, when Jarzębowski was asked if the team had maxed out the power of the PS4 and Xbox One, he replied “If it maxes out the consoles? Well, the future will tell. There are games that are being released for current-gen that look way better than everything created so far. We are always getting wiser and wiser, so I expect our next game will look even better."
The Witcher 3 was delayed earlier this month until February 2015, as developer CD Projekt RED wanted to ensure that it achieved a sufficient level of quality to stand head and shoulders above other RPGs.
