There are always going to be winners and losers in any industry, and it seems that, right now, Korean manufacturer LG is definitely sitting at the winner’s table.

It was recently revealed that the creator of the highly popular LG G2 smartphone has shot up the rankings and is now the third largest phone producer in the USA…

They finish a strong third behind US giants Apple and compatriots Samsung, taking a significant 8% of the US smartphone market in the last financial year. That has almost doubled the 4.1% market share the company reported this time last year.

It follows a change in tact for LG, who used to be known mainly for mid-range smartphones. Since the launch of the LG G2 last year, however, the focus has been increasingly on the high-end, with the G2 scoring higher than both the Apple iPhone 5s and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in terms of customer satisfaction.

The gains didn’t translate in all markets, however. LG’s UK share dropped by just over a percentage point from 4.3% in 2013 to 3.2% now, in line with the general slip in Android shares compared to iOS since December.

With the - admittedly unconfirmed - LG G3 expected to arrive later this year with some impressive specifications if leaks are to be believed, we could be seeing the start of a successful year for LG around the world, particularly if the new flagship does well in the United States.
