Every so often a game comes along that looks ready-made to push a gaming rig to its limits. A towering behemoth seemingly designed to push graphics cards off shop shelves quicker than free hot-cakes.

Behold - Goat Simulator. Never has it been more imperative that you can lick a lamppost at 60 frames per second. The new frontier of goat simulation demands authenticity, and so we put our trusty Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 2GB through its paces in our Goat Simulator benchmarks…

It takes a certain type of madman/team to devise a game like Goat Simulator, and it happens to be the type of people that throw together a game in a matter of weeks. Coffee Stain Studios mantra for Goat Simulator was “try really hard to make it look like you’re not trying too hard”. This mantra continues into the optimisation, with Coffee Stain Studios even blase enough about the millions of bugs to include a Steam achievement unlockable when the game crashes - 'Involuntary QA
Ooops, the game seems to have crashed.' You don’t need me to telling you how abso-ruddy-lutely sublime that is.

Settings in Goat Simulator are pretty rudimentary, offering you a considerable number of resolution settings, as well as up to 8x MSAA, Dynamic Shadows, optional Light Shafts and the obligatory Low and High texture settings.

For our benchmarks we saw how our gaming rig coped with Goat Simulator on High and Low texture settings, across a myriad of resolutions and multisampling antialiasing (MSAA) settings.

Goat Simulator isn't the prettiest game in the world by any stretch of the imagination. Crank down those textures and all of sudden there's not much grass to nibble on, making it a worthwhile bump up to High. The performance hit varies wildly, this is a game that doesn't so much forgo optimisation as take it outside and bite its face off. Whacking up the Goat Simulator MSAA settings is generally a recipe for disaster on the GTX 650; you'll notice some pretty hefty frame rate drops when dragging an unconscious 'pro-penis-modelling' campaigner onto a fast-paced treadmill loaded with high-powered explosives.

Goat Simulator is also loaded with enough glitches like the one below to make glitch hunting a joy in itself, while not many games causes a bout of spontaneous cheering when it crashes to desktop. If you're wanting to experience the best that Goat Simulator has to offer though, then you're undoubtedly going to be best off with Nvidia's GeForce GTX Titan Z, saddled with 12GB of RAM it's the value-for-money choice for any discerning goat.

As always, be sure to share your Goat Simulator benchmarks and let us know how Coffee Stain Games' finest performs!

As long as we are unaware to what our purpose in life is, we cannot deny it is not being a goat. -Dalay Lama

This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Make a goat simulator because screw logic : ))

I have a GTX 660 by PNY and I can play the game maxed out getting over 30fps almost always. The only times I have issues is at the top of the crane looking over the city, and even then the dip is only 5fps at worst.

well you can but check MSAA because sometime according to benchmarks it's giving more fps with MSAA. So check it out. But fps will be not very healthy.

Agree with Mark the game is poorly optimized so low frame rate and ocassional lag may occur.

Good, so I can ultra it with 25 FPS, I think it's good enough.

They won't bother. It wasn't meant to be a serious game so they'll fix game crashing bugs but nothing else.

And I was thinking that my CPU/GPU was dying XD... My GPU was picking its nose and my CPU was doing its math homework. ^^

don't complain about your gpu. Keep in mind that there are worser rigs (like mine)

I was implying that my GPU and CPU were not being utilized... I will never act arrogant like that. Also My CPU is around entry level and my GPU is barely mid level. Was part of a 700$ build. Anyone that is dedicated to make a gaming rig should do better. ^^ Still very happy with my rig though!

Goat Simulator Disclaimer from Steam: Goat Simulator is a completely stupid game and, to be honest, you should probably spend your money on something else, such as a hula hoop, a pile of bricks, or maybe pool your money together with your friends and buy a real goat.
