Sorry for the confusion but it appears Microsoft were telling fibs when they posted up the Age of Mythology: Extended Edition system requirements on Thursday, with some new requirements coming to light.
The souped-up version of their 2003 real time strategy classic will feature improved visuals, time of day effects, realtime shadows, bump and specular mapping, antialiasing and ambient occlusion. All of these effects come at a price though, and that's why the AoM:EE recommended system requirements are certainly a fair bit higher than its ageing counterpart...
Age of Mythology Extended Edition Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista 32-bit SP2
CPU: 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 or 1.6 GHz AMD Athlon XP 2000+
RAM: 1GB System Memory
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT, AMD Radeon X1950 or integrated Intel HD 3000
DX: DirectX 10.0
HDD: 3 GB Free Hard Drive Space
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
Age of Mythology Extended Edition Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows 7
CPU: 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 or 2.4 GHz AMD Athlon 64 3400+
RAM: 4 GB System Memory
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX or AMD Radeon HD 4850+
DX: Direct X 11
HDD: 5 GB Free Hard Drive Space
These system requirements for Age of Mythology aren't really too bad at all, particularly with the extremely low-end processor requirements. Those wanting to squeeze out all of the new graphical bells and whistles from Microsoft's update will need to have a relatively decent graphics card, with the requirement of DX11 support GPU needed to get Age of Mythology: Extended Edition looking its finest.
From what we've seen of it a lot of the noticeable graphical additions to AoM are in the lighting department, so if you're rigs on the lower end of the scale then turning down these options are probably your best bet. From my hazy memory of Age of Mythology, some of the fights can get pretty manic once lightning bolts and being flung and Titans are strolling round, so some of the larger scale fights may test lower-end PCs.

Okay then, what do you think of these system requirements?
will the graphical touch-up be enough for you to play through Ensemble Studio's classic again?

even at medium settings this will be beetter than the original , and they will probably make gameplay improvements , and if this is a hit, chances of a sequel will be better
