Living up to its namesake, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Phantoms has made its way undetected to the Steam store overnight.

Previously known as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online, Ghost Recon Phantoms is a free-to-play squad-based shooter where you and your band of (hopefully) well-trained teammates go on globetrotting firefights…

Ubisoft opted the scratch Ghost Recon Phantoms old identity in favour of a new one, adding a new background story, a brand new user interface, and additional weapon and character designs for all three of the available classes.

It would be fair to say that Ghost Recon Online never really took off in the public consciousness, and it’s clear that Ubisoft’s hoping this huge new update and rebranding can make it a success.

"The launch trailer is an accurate portrayal of the new DNA of the game. Sleeker, more refined and looking better than ever,” said game producer Corey Facteau. “it showcases the new character design in a map that our veterans know very well, the Xinyi District. The intense action sequence is just a peek into the intense combat of the game and reinforces the Ghost Recon Phantoms belief that by fighting as a team, you prevail.

This game is really not worth anyone's time unless you pay extra $ to get superb weapons, nades and armor, otherwise you'll just get one shotted a lot :|

side note: however if you can afford to pay for extra, the game is freakin great

The game is fairly good. But there aren't many maps and it isn't as fast paced as Ghost recon future soldier :(

I haven't played it yet... but if it is moderately paced, then it is likely that the game forces players to focus more on strategy and tactics rather than just quick reflexes and power-weapon combos...

It is. The game is more focused in strategy. The 3 classes are very unique and different. And there's a lot of gadget and equipment you can buy.
But what sucks is the grenade. You have to buy it with real money and it could permanently run out, and you have to buy them again.

granades can be bought with the AC points too... you get two options to buy... one with AC points the other is with GC points

I guess I'll try it. I recently had to put down Bad Company 2 because of constant frame drops, gpu usage only 30%. I need a new processor ;(

The game was VERY underrated before, hopefully this update can help bring in new players, and keep support alive for this game :P

It sucks, there are huge problems with negative acceleration (choppy mouse aiming)

Yes those seem like reasonable system requirements... I was thinking this game would have something like GTS 450 or HD 5770 in recommended (GTX 260 and HD 4870 are comparable)...
