It seems we’re on the cusp of a new Prince of Persia announcement, as a Ubisoft developer let slip the news in a not-so-subtle Tweet, before hurriedly deleting.

But, the internet being the internet, it didn’t take long for his misplaced Tweet to resurface hundreds of times over. Whether Ubisoft is holding out for an E3 reveal or not, Ubisoft Reflections engineer Drew James made it quite clear that we can expect some news regarding the nimble prince soon…

As far as rumours go, the Tweet below is as close as you can get to stone-cold confirmation. It’s been rumoured for some time now that Prince of Persia would be getting a 2D reboot, using the same engine powering both Rayman Legends and Child of Light.

I remember playing Prince of Persia on an Acorn computer way back when and loving it, although my nostalgia goggles have fogged up somewhat. A few of the recent Prince of Persia games have strayed a bit too far from what I love about the series, so I’m hoping a return to its roots can also mean a return to form.

The new Prince of Persia is reportedly quite far along in terms of development, with the titular prince already fully animated and moving about the environments with his trademark agility.

Have we got many Prince of Persia fans here at GD?
