CCP has announced that it is re-imagining the PlayStation 3 exclusive shooter Dust 514 as Project Legion, and this time around it will make it to PC.
Dust 514 takes place in the same universe as EVE Online, allowing players to engage in massively multiplayer FPS matches across the very same planets that galactic star commanders are treating as their playthings. Project Legion is looking to take this experience to the next level for PC, with CCP remaking Dust 514 from the ground up…
The EVE Online fanfest is in full swing over in Reykjavik, Iceland, where developer CCP is putting on a hectic few days worth of EVE-exclusive content. CCP CEO Hilmar Velgar was first to open up about the existence of Project Legion, saying in an interview earlier today that it’s "a new approach to being a mercenary on the ground, it's almost that experience made anew.
"It's taking all we learned from Dust and almost making a new game from scratch, even though it's the same team doing a first-person shooter, so they're very experienced now. And we've made good headway on it."
Dust 514 didn’t exactly set the world on fire when it landed on PlayStation 3 last year, but the additional experience of the dev team coupled with the expansive vision offered by PC gaming could prove a potent combination.
"It's almost more a revolution than an evolution, and that's why we're calling it Project Legion, because it's, frankly, more like a new game."
Details on Project Legion are scarce right now but we’d expect to deliver a full keynote revealing the game later this weekend. For now we know it will use the same sandbox model fashioned by Eve Online, with player-driven events driving play forward. For those worried about the steep learning curve presented by Eve Online, game designer Julien Bourbonnais has reassured that "This will be much more accessible. First of all it will be a free-to-play game, there will be no barrier to entry. And it is a brand new experience, it is something that people never experienced before. We want to give something different for the users."

I have played DUST 514 but not EVE Online. Regardless, I do like the world of EVE. The only downside of DUST 514 that really irked me was the lobby size. The map sizes are really big, but it felt as if though there weren't enough players...

...to "fill" the map. That is pretty much my main gripe with every MMO shooter game, even for CoD and Battlefield. Halo to some extent, but Halo: Reach's maps in Big Team Battles were about right with 18 players. I haven't tried Resistance.

Could be promising, if done right, and carries the F2P badge with it.

Not sure if I would stick to PS2 or this, will have to see.
