Sony has announced that The Order: 1886 has been delayed from its previously scheduled Q3 2014 release back to Early 2015.
The PlayStation 4 exclusive was undoubtedly Sony’s lynchpin for the upcoming holiday season, with Ready At Dawn’s squad-based shooter being one of the surprise reveals at E3 2013…
"We want to hold true to something we've talked about in the past," said Ready at Dawn’s head honcho Ru Weerasuriya at a pre-E3 press event. "Which is delivering the experience without having this ebb and flow of: oh, this was really great and that was kind of meh, because we sacrificed a little time on it."
"We have an open discussion with Sony all the time," Weerasuriya continued. "We said, 'Look, we can achieve the quality you expect everywhere, but delivering on this is going to take a few more months.'
"It's not that long. It's worth it if we can deliver on the promise we made."
While we are all aware that waiting for the best possible game is always the ideal outcome, this news comes as a blow to PlayStation 4 owners who will have decidedly slim pickings when it comes to exclusives this coming holiday season. October’s DriveClub is now Sony’s biggest confirmed title, which itself was originally intended to be a PlayStation 4 launch title.
To halt the pitchfork-waving masses in their tracks momentarily, Ready at Dawn has released a making-of trailer for The Order: 1886 with some interesting new art and gameplay snippets.
