Five Game Crossovers We Would Love To See - June 2014

Inspired by the rumours that The Creative Assembly are working on a Warhammer and Total War crossover, we thought it would be a cracking idea to dream up the perfect gaming marriages. Those ideas that you think can't possibly fail, paired with the developers that always get it right.

We want to make this a regular thing, where we can dream up gaming possibilities and crossovers that just might happen. Whether its Valve being giving free reign with the Star Wars license, or Bethesda being handed the Pokemon franchise of a platter, we want to dream big about tantalising prospects that maybe one day might just happen...

The Creative Assembly - Total Warhammer

Warhammer Total War has been on the cards for yonks now, and we’d absolutely love an official hint that this is in existence. Take Total War, thrown in some Dwarfs, Chaos and the Undead and boy, you’ve got a stew going. Dark Omen was incredible back in the day, and the strategy giants at The Creative Assembly can generally do no wrong. Taking out all the historical realism from the Total War series would allow them to go absolutely wild, so we’d fully expect this to be the most outrageous Total War yet.

Huge tactical battles between lizardmen, wood elves, ogres and orcs could be taken to the next level by Creative Assembly. The brains behind Rome: Total War could create a sprawling epic that any gamer would find it difficult to say no to.

Bethesda - Skymon

The odds of Nintendo doing what people want/expect is usually extremely low. Think: nil. The world has been calling out for a fully-fledged open-world 3D Pokemon game on Nintendo consoles ever since Ash ended up picking that fated Pokeball.

How about Bethesda take the reins from Nintendo and delivering a massive scale Pokemon adventure, creating a huge Pokemon world with mature graphics and truly brutal Pokemon. Imagine going for a quick stroll around Kalos, only to stumble into a roaring Druddigon bringing an entire town to its knees. Now try squeezing it into a Pokeball, and it’s yours to keep forever. The possibilities would be endless here, and it's difficult to think a team more capable of the scope needed for an enterprise like this than Bethesda.

DICE - Battlefield: Middle-earth

After 5 modern-day Battlefield games on the trot, we think it’s only fair DICE start branching out a bit for the next in the series. We know Star Wars Battlefront will eventually be on its way, but think of the potential that could be found in a Battlefield: Middle-earth.

Hundreds of players could be involved in storming or defending Helm’s Deep, while a battle could rage over the Shire between the Tucks and the Brandybucks. Strengthening hand to hand combat could lend an entirely new dimension to the Battlefield franchise, while the humble bow and arrow isn’t used nearly enough in competitive ranged combat. Tolkien's rich world lends itself to what could be some absolutely outstanding maps, and while we loved our time roaming around Lego Middle-earth, we can't help but feel this franchise would be better off in DICE's loving hands.

Valve - Craft-Life

Take one of the world’s best-selling games, and merge it with another one of the world’s best selling games, and what have you got? Total gaming nirvana is the answer, as the level building tools and eternal replayability of Minecraft are combined with the the greatness that is the Half-Life franchise. Never again will you have to wait a decade for Half-Life, you can play thousands of others instead. While it could come with the traditional Craft-Life 3 campaign, players can tweak and build levels to their hearts content using the easy-to-use toolset to bend Black Mesa to your will.

Microsoft - Age of Sims

Building a house was always alright, but causing a house fire was always a touch more entertaining. After years of watching your sims traipse off to the office every day, wouldn’t it be nice to break up the mundanity of their day to day life and send them off for a good old bout of old-fashioned warmongering. Microsoft's absence from the PC gaming world hasn't gone unnoticed, and what better way to make a splash than the 'Age of' series. Microsoft and EA have clearly already been in cahoots for Titanfall, so why not a proper collaboration in future?

In Age of Sims you could train your sims up from birth, creating a thriving family or village, before poking a neighbourhood town with a stick, riling it like a hornets nest. Then you take Age of Sims online in a multiplayer real-time strategy battle, with your poor little sims suffering the threat of permadeath. I can almost smell the boiling tar on the soft Summer air.

Telltale Presents The X-Files

Telltale have turned their masterful hands to quite a few properties over the years and the results, it would be fair to say, have been a mixed mag. They’ve hit high notes with The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, but also some right bum notes along the way (I’m looking at you Jurassic Park: The Game). Despite this we think there’s some IPs that just naturally suit themselves more to Telltale’s style of game, and Mulder and Scully’s bizarre paranormal detective work could be a perfect fit. Since 2008 the world has sadly been a ‘Spooky Mulder’-less place, and Telltale’s great storytelling combined with The X-Files’ episodic nature make this a marriage straight from gaming heaven.

What other dream games would you love to see made, and who would you like to see developing then? However outrageous they are be sure to let us know, and we'll feature some of the best in a future edition of Gaming Marriage Heaven!

Basically Assassin's Creed in first person and with the supernatural abilities of Dishonored

Personally I feel that if Total War left it's historical period games it would lose what I expect a Total War to be... I don't know.. I'd just feel like it wouldn't be a game that I would like if Total War went from Real to fantasy :/

Great article :) Battlefield Middle Earth would be awesome and probably a whole lot better that lotr Conquest. And if CA are going for Warhammer: Total War then I don't see why there can't be a lotr Total War or Star Wars for that matter.

Or maybe even Elder Scrolls Total War or Game of Thrones Total War. There have been mods for Crusader Kings for both of them so why not?

Halo and Star Wars... Here are what would be swapped:

  1. Covenant worship ancient Sith instead of the Forerunners

  2. Instead of UNSC Marines and ODST - Clone Troopers and ARCs

  3. Instead of Spartans - Clone Commandos

  4. UNSC projectile weapons replaced by Republic DEWs

  5. Halo is a massive force weapon world capable of wiping out all midichlorian infused sentient beings i.e. most macrobiotic life in the galaxy

Divinity: Alliance Commander. In a parallel universe, Shepard leads Citadel forces in the war against the Terminus Systems, making decisions with the council, interacting with squadmates and fighting in a blend of RTS, TPS and RPG.
