Microsoft has only just axed Windows XP support back in April of this year, but today the software giant has warned that Windows 7 support will be ending as soon as January 2015.

In an official announcement Microsoft said that support will be ending for Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, and Office 2010 among others, meaning there will be no new updates and fixes for these services once the new year rolls round…

In the case of Microsoft, end of support for its products typically occurs five years after their release, following which it is only supported by security fixes until 2020, when support will cease entirely, as was the case with Windows XP. The official end date for Windows 7 support is 13th January 2015, after which only businesses will receive updates.

While standard practice, Microsoft is clearly keen to get users moving along from Windows 7 to Windows 8, a migration which has proven extremely slow following consumer backlash after its launch.

Do you think now is the time to make the leap to Windows 8? Or are you intent on holding out for Windows 9's inevitable arrival? Get involved in the discussion below! Cheers Milaor270 for the heads up!
