Warner Bros has released a new gameplay trailer of NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat X, showcasing the inimitable series veteran Raiden and his opponent-crushing moveset. Every fighter in Mortal Kombat X will, in a first for the series, have three different variants, each with special strengths and abilities that can turn the tide of a fight.

Raiden’s three variations consist of Thunder God Raiden, Displacer Raiden, and Storm Lord Raiden, and must be picked before the start of a fight. All three of these versions of Raiden have unique abilities to master, making MKX one of the deepest Mortal Kombat titles yet.

Series creator Ed Boon is on hand to introduce Raidens character abilities. Thunder God Raiden has enhanced lightning attacks, allowing him to string together longer combos and do more damage. Displacer Raiden meanwhile allows him to teleport around the arena, making him far more mobile and difficult for his opponent to contain. Finally Storm Lord Raiden allows the player to create lightning traps with large areas of effect, allowing an expert player to truly manipulate a battle.

Mortal Kombat X is due in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Is Raiden your go-to fighter of choice in Mortal Kombat? What fighters are you looking forward to seeing unveiled next for Mortal Kombat X? Displace yourself down to the comments below and let us know your thoughts!

MK has always been the "slasher movie" of fighting games. One of the reasons it works so well. Give it a try, you'll end up enjoying it :)

I would like to see fighting game like this with much more realistic movement physics. I mean they move so fast and you don't even push the button and the characther has already push or kicked or did whatever. Compare the combat technic with Sleeping Dogs for example. If they would make every action with better technic it would be nice. Is here somebody who understands what my opinion wants to say or I was talking for no reason:P...?

This looks pretty good... So far, MK2 is still my all-time favourite, but never hurts to keep trying, Nether... Lets see!
