A junior designer who left Sacred 3 developer Keen Games has taken it upon himself to apologise for the state of the latest game in the series, claiming hardcore fans of the franchise didn’t necessarily get what they were after.

The controversial statements come from Sascha Wagentrotz, who was employed at Keen Games up until May 2013, working on the design and implementation of the enemies and bosses. Taking to the Sacred 3 Steam community page, Wagentrotz claimed the title was never going to be the game that gamers wanted, and could only have been saved by the Deep Silver marketing team.

Damning indeed, but Wagentrotz was also keen to defend his former employers at Keen Games, saying “I've read a lot of hate against my former employer keen games, that they destroyed the franchise (on purpose)... All I can say is, that you should not overestimate the power of a developer in a "work for hire" constellation with a big publisher."

I’m sorry for the die-hard sacred fans, that didn’t get the game they wanted to have,” he said to the Sacred 3 Steam community. “As a developer I received a free steam key for Sacred 3, which I would like to give to a disappointed fan. It’s not much, just a gesture.”

It would be fair to say that Sacred 3 arrived to a pretty lukewarm reception, although keep an eye out for the Game Debate review any day now. Should Wagentrotz have spoken out against a title he’d worked on so soon after release? For those who’ve played it, do Wagentroz’s correlate with your experience? Let us know what you think!

Actually why would Risen 3 apologize, they didn't hype the game, they didn't even show a gameplay till month before the release, the game is exactly what i expected almost like the Risen 1, and better then Risen 2.

I don't understand the hate over Risen 3. I'm playing the game and I'm liking it a lot. It's exactly what I expected. Sacred 3, however.....
