Blizzard has announced that it has cancelled production of its long-in-development next-generation MMO Titan, after a full seven years in development. The studio responsible for the evergreen World of Warcraft admitted that it couldn’t actually make the experience fun.

Titan was set to be a completely new IP from Blizzard, their first new franchise since 1998’s StarCraft, and although never officially announced, Blizzard had long talked of its development struggles since 2007. Blizzard head honcho Mike Morhaime disclosed the disappointing news in a recent interview, claiming that the ultra-successful studio "didn't find the fun".

The last we’d seen or heard of Titan was back in May 2013, when development was reportedly rebooted as Blizzard sought to take the MMO into a different direction. Despite being in development for such a long period, very little was ever actually known about Titan. Morhaime had said they were learning lessons from the years worked on World of Warcraft and they had every plan for it and Titan to both co-exist.

"It's always really, really hard to make those kind of decisions," said Blizzard VP Chris Metzen. "It was hard when we canceled Warcraft Adventures. It was hard when we canceled StarCraft Ghost. But it has always resulted in better-quality work."

Blizzard’s future it seems won’t revolve around a new MMO, and the studio no doubt has its hands full with the imminent release of World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, the continued success of Hearthstone, the Heroes of the Storm MOBA, and StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. Were you looking forward to seeing how Blizzard may have been planning to reinvent the MMO? Do you think it’s about time time Blizzard created a totally new IP?

Maybe it was too fun and they were afraid it would kill people.

They worked 7 years but remember they weren't working everyday so... And they received money every month for that 7 years.

A fine choice after all, they said they just didn't have nice ideas about it and didn't want to push themselves to make a bad product

This bliizard.. if you think to create something and have a potencial to get big try it or think at least 1 year if this game will work or not.. Now many workers from blizzard will go away from the company imo. 7 years wasted

Imagine 7 years of your life is wasted. That's probably how the dev's feel right now.

Really 7 years , they could have been doing something more productive than that.

As awful as it is, I'm glad they chose not to release it if they didn't find it fun. Better than most other companies..

better than most companies...
7 years wasted is better than most companies! I'm sure they would have decided it wasn't fun to make after at max 3 years, I mean I bet some of the developers got bored after 1 year.

I imagine the people working on it weren't pleased that 7 years of their lives was essentially wasted.
