The Evil Within System Requirements

Bethesda and Tango Gameworks recently announced that their latest title, survival horror game, The Evil Within, has gone Gold. Which basically means they have completed it and its waiting for its release date, which is October 14th in EU and NA, the 16th October for New Zealand and Australia, and finally the 23rd October in Japan. To mark this they have also got in touch to let us know that The Evil Within system requirements have been finalised.

These requirements are a little vague in terms of lower end requirements but they do lean towards some enormous recommended requirements. Getting The Evil Within to run smoothly on your machine is going to take some hefty hardware.

The Evil Within System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 (64 bit) / 8 (64 bit)
  • CPU: Intel i7 Quad Core or similar (Intel Core i7-4770K / AMD FX-9370)
  • RAM: 4GB of System Memory
  • VRAM: 4GB Graphics Memory
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 670 / Radeon R9 285
  • HD: 50GB

Ok, so other things to point out, these are recommended system requirements for The Evil Within. The game will require Steam activation and it is suggested that a high speed internet connection will be important. Probably to download that 50GB installation file. Once The Evil Within is installed it will actually take up 41 GB of hard drive space and not the 50GB.

You can also see that there is a hefty 4GB VRAM being asked for. We dont know yet how relevant that is, but they make a point with it, thats for sure. An i7 is a top end CPU as well. However, the memory requirement for The Evil Within is only 4GB RAM. I would have expected 8GB to be more inline with the rest of these recommended specs.

If you are interested, the hard drive space required by The Evil Within for each of the consoles is both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will need 7GB of hard drive space. The PS4 and XBox One will each need 40GB of harddrive space.

Looking over The Evil Within requirements further tells us that this year has seen a huge increase in what developers are asking for, with regards to PC system requirements. Obviously this is linked closely to the release of the more powerful new consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One. We will have an article out over the weekend to talk about this topic, get some thoughts from you guys and hopefully shed some light on what is happening out there in the hardware market now and what we can expect to happen in the foreseeable future of PC gaming hardware system requirements.

One thing we know, this twisted game is going to look "gorgeous" (not sure that is the right word here) and might be the perfect title for Halloween next month. Let me know if you would dare sit in alone on the spookiest night of the year, turn off the lights and try to play this with a headset on? I dont think I have the bottle to do it, do you?

Calm down, these are recommended requirements. Also, it is possible these are for 4k resolution requirements.

Damn it :/ I thought games like Ryse, Witcher 3, Dragon Age, Middle Earth, GTA V and AC Unity would be demanding but this game, really :/

I have no hopes for running this right? T-T (Why and the bad thing is, my rig is not even 1 year old - I had no plans on upgrading anytime sooner).

Drowning in sadness for a fx 8350 and a gtx 760?

If you are being serious, let me ease your sadness. You can still probably play this on at the very least medium settings. But let's wait until the official minimum requirements come out.

Thanks for easing my sadness frend. When I said Rig, I was worried with the GPU V-RAM requirement. My overclocked FX-8350 is 18% more powerful than FX-9370 (I am not worried about that). So the only thing bothering me is the GPU part. I was able to play Dead Rising 3 at Max settings even if it was a sh**ty port. Not 60FPS but it was at a playable 40-50 FPS (After using the FPS unlock) but this ...

if you wanna play highest settings maybe... otherwise if you are okay with middle or high you can truley stick with your rig :) for example i had an fx 6300 and it bottlnecked my gpu, i never had intel before , but in my opinion they have more power for gaming :) but of course a 8350 is a way better then a 6300 :)

As in the post below by bassman, 2GB V-RAM guys shouldn't even think about playing it, what the hell does that mean :/

Bethesda said in the forum, 2GB of VRAM is not even recommended to play this. What the heck?

This game is using Id tech Engine 5. Same one as Wolfenstein New Order. No SLI support, usually comes screen tearing on PC, and kind of dated. In short, bad optimization.

The New Order wasn't badly optimized at all. Ran very well actually.

It does ran very well with me too. But the screen tearing problem is what really bugs me with this engine. And there are barely no fix from the game itself.

Then why say it has bad optimization?

I never had a problem with screen tearing in The New Order. What settings and fps were you getting?

Bad optimization not in terms of performance in general.
I got 50-60 fps running on high without V sync, the ingame Vsync doesn't do anything much. And 30 even 20 fps with force Vsync from Nvidia control panel.

Well, I'm surprised you didn't have screen tearing problem, you may be one of the lucky ones. It's a common problem, many steam users are complaining about it.

In-game v-sync should get rid of screen tearing. Do you know what causes screen tearing?

As I said in my previous post, the ingame Vsync didn't do anything much.
The only way to get a good Vsync is by forcing it via control panel.

I did have fps issues with The New Order when I had my AMD control panel. Getting rid of it fixed the problem. Have you tried doing that?

in the nvidia control panel , v-sync on adaptive, v-sync ingame off, if you have still problems turn down graphics , so you get more fps, had no tearings @ all :)

What is with the 4GB VRAM ? This game better have some super beautiful ultra mega textures, or this 4GB VRAM better be recommended for a 4K resolution. Well I guess it could be for 1080p with 4 x Super Sampling Anti Aliasing (4xSSAA). Basically still 4K. However even a 4GB 670 will not handle 4k with any kind of playable fps. It would probably take two 4GB 970 in SLI just to get playable fps at 4K

i have seen gameplay of this game and it didnt look THAT stunning to me. it was on closed areas and rooms as well no big spaces and such. whats the i7 for? whats with the crazy VRAM requirements lately too? 95% of the people or more dont have 4GB Vram available. the 670 is very high requirement too but i guess its some kind of ultra/very high recommended settings. still surprising thouh..

Don't believe these for a minute sorry but I don't. Probably the requirements for Ultra at 60+ fps also at the time of writing this there are no system requirements for this game in its store page on steam. I would wait for them to appear before I start to panic about specs like this.
