The hideously addictive Crusader Kings 2 is free this weekend on Steam to celebrate it hitting a mightily impressive 1 million copies sold. You can grab it today and gain access to a free three-day trial, but good luck conquering Europe in 3 days.

Crusader Kings 2 is an immensely complex strategy game that requires players to go in deep to uncover all of its complexities. Rumours abound some committed players have never been seen again since delving in. It’s also on sale for 75% off so this is a pretty good opportunity to give it a go if you’re still sitting on the fence. Crusader Kings 2 has been out since early 2012 but its fanbase has steadily grew as more players have hopped into its treacherously deep waters.

Set during the Middle Ages, Crusader Kings 2 is essentially about as open-ended as it comes, with no goals or win-states to speak of, although I’m sure it’s usually a good tactic to smite everyone in your path. Everything from organised assassinations to pagan rituals, family backstabbing, and forced marriages are at your fingertips to create a compelling alternate history.

I gave it a whirl last night and within a matter of minutes I was knee-deep in pagan politics while my immediate family seemed more interested in backstabbing one another than fending off the impending threat of the viking hordes. Suffice to say my efforts to make Dorset an impenetrable stronghold were doomed from the daunting start. Still, I’m eager to get back in and explore more of what’s on offer in this ridiculously deep strategy title.

Crusader Kings 2 is available to grab now on Steam, free for a few days and on sale for 75% off if it still holds your interest. And GD’ers delved deep into the tactical well that is Crusader Kings 2? Tempted to give this free trial a go? Let us know!

Just bought the full collection, have been wanting this for ages, $45 aud all up, better than somewhere between $130-$140 when it wasn't on sale.
