F.E.A.R Online is set to be released for open beta on October 8th and all you need to do to get involved is sign up for an Aeria Games account, no key is needed. Developed by Inplay Interactive, F.E.A.R Online is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter based on the F.E.A.R FPS horror series developed by Shadow of Mordor creators Monolith.
F.E.A.R Online will run its narrative in parallel to the events of F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin. The game features 4 player co-op mode as well as a return of Soul King mode from F.E.A.R 3. Soul King mode offers a slightly different twist to standard deathmatches. Here players take on the role of Spectres who have to possess enemies in order to kill each other then collect the souls that are left behind. The player holding the most souls at the end wins. It’s simple enough but gives a nice bit of variation to knocking seven shades of hell out of one another.
On top of this you’ll find Team Deathmatch, Team Demolition, Knife Mode and Armored Front modes, as the other PvP game modes. With at least ten different maps to choose from, those familiar with F.E.A.R will know to expect many nightmarish encounters with monsters (or scary children) along the way as well.
With the co-op storyline mode putting players in teams up to four it will be interesting to see whether the developers, new to the F.E.A.R franchise, will still manage to create significant opportunity to relieve one's bowels. It’s one thing to cause people to jump with fright when they're on their own, or with just one friend who’s as scared as them, but a lot harder with a team of four locked and loaded soldiers.
F.E.A.R Online will be available for the online Beta testing from the 8th of October through the Aeria download client, with the full release available on Steam from October 17th. Do you think F.E.A.R Online will be able to provide as many scares as it's predecessors?
