If you’re still using last gen consoles but hoping to upgrade soon, Activision is offering a way to ease the potential costs. Anyone who purchases the downloadable version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on either an Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3 will be able to grab the current gen version of the game when they upgrade, as long as the original purchase is made by March 31st 2015.
This type of offer was previously used by Activision for the recent release of Destiny, which you can still take advantage of up until January 15th next year. For the company to put this offer into use so soon with another high profile title suggests it was successful enough first time round and is an effective method of giving reluctant and cash strapped gamers the encouragement they need to make that jump to the current gen consoles.
As the offer is only available to copies of the came that are purchased for download it means players won’t be able to sell on the last gen copies once they upgrade. With the upgrade players will be able to transfer across any progress, stats and gear on the current gen version to ensure none of those hours of effort are lost in the transition. Any DLC will also be available for the upgrade. Claiming the free download will be simple, just log onto the same account and find the game in the online store, as with any other purchase.
With gaming studios keen to give last gen console owners incentives like this in an effort to increase the number upgrading, this may well not be the last time we see an offer like this in the coming months.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released on November 2nd but a pre order of the Day Zero Edition will get players access a day earlier. Will you be taking advantage of this offer whilst you wait to upgrade your console? Or will you be grabbing Activision's latest shooter on PC?
