3D Realms, the studio that brought the world classic games like Wolfenstein 3D, the original Duke Nukem games, and Shadow Warrior, is back in business. The studio shut up shop back in 2009 when the much delayed and disrupted development of Duke Nukem Forever was handed over to Gearbox Software, along with all intellectual ownership of the Duke Nukem franchise.

To celebrate its return to the world of game development 3D Realms has released the 3D Realms Anthology, a collection consisting of 32 of the most celebrated game the studio served up through the 1990’s. For 48 hours it’s available for $19.99 then the price goes up to $39.99.

It’s no surprise that 3D Realms has returned, recently Interceptor Entertainment bought the company. Last year Interceptor Entertainment had developed a remake of Rise of the Triad after purchasing the licensing rights. The newly reformed 3D Realms comprises a combination of new and old faces. Scott Millar and Bryan Turner have served with 3D Realms in some respect for years, whilst Frederick Schreiber from Interceptor Enterainment takes up the role of Vice President and Mike Nielson of coolshop.com is CEO.

Here’s a full list of the games are included in the 3D Realms Anthology:

  • Arctic Adventure
  • Bio Menace
  • Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
  • Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy
  • Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons
  • Math Rescue
  • Monster Bash
  • Mystic Towers
  • Paganitzu
  • Monuments of Mars
  • Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure
  • Crystal Caves
  • Death Rally
  • Alien Carnage
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Major Stryker
  • Blake Stone: Planet Strike
  • Realms of Chaos
  • Pharaoh's Tomb
  • Word Rescue
  • Secret Agent
  • Raptor: Call of the Shadows
  • Terminal Velocity
  • Wacky Wheels
  • Stargunner
  • Shadow Warrior
  • Wolfenstein 3D
  • Rise of the Triad: Dark War
  • Duke Nukem
  • Duke Nukem 2
  • Duke Nukem 3D
  • Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project

3D Realms' future plans remain a relative unknown aside from this anthology. Having sold the rights to the rights to the Duke Nukem franchise it's going to have to seek pastures new, but we wouldn't be surprised to see another old-school shooter out of them within the coming years. What are you hoping 3D Realms works on next? Any hope of the team dragging 3D Realms back up to its glory days? Let us know what you think!

Wolfenstein 3D was made by id Software... I know that 3D Realms have also been a publisher, and Jonnie probably knows this too, I'm just saying that the article reads as though they were the company who made Wolfenstein 3D. Sorry for such nitpicking. :P

Bio menace is one of the best games of that era.

It was much better than that poor remake of Rise of The Triad.
