In recent months there seems to have been a resurgence in the number of Japanese titles making it over to the PC. Usually the domain of Sony and Nintendo's games consoles, it seems the popularity of PC gaming is forcing some big name Japanese publishers to think twice about the PC market. Valkyria Chronicles is the latest of these, and it's an absolute corker from Sega.

Set in the fictitious continent of Europe during the 1930s, war has erupted between two superpowers, the Empire and the Federation. The neutral country of Gallia is stuck between these warring giants and it's up to you rise up and defend this tiny nation using a mixture of tactical combat and action-based movement throughout an epic storyline that decides the fate of the world. To find out whether your gaming PC is going to be facing the blitzkrieg or a spud gun, be sure to check out the official Valkyria Chronicles system requirements.

Valkyria Chronicles Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows Vista 32-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 2.0GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.6GHz
  • RAM: 2GB System Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 or AMD Radeon HD 4650
  • HDD: 25GB Free Hard Drive Space
  • DX: DirectX 10

Valkyria Chronicles Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 32-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.80GHz or AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2 GHz
  • RAM: 3 GB System Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 or AMD Radeon HD 4870

Valkyria Chronicles is ancient title by PlayStation 3 standards, coming out just a year or so into the console's lifespan back in 2008. No doubt because of this the requirements for Valkyria Chronicles are extremely low. The processor and graphics card demands for Valkyria chronicles are right at the low end, as is the 2GB RAM requirement. Valkyria Chronicles isn't a bad looking game but it does make use of a unique paintbrush aesthetic that doesn't look particularly demanding, so most gamers should be able to get this running in some form. As it is Valkyria Chronicles is extremely slow-paced so even if your rig is right down near the minimum system requirements you can expect to get a decent game out of it.

The recommended requirements for Valkyria Chronicles are a little more demanding but there isn't really anything here to cause concern. Both the GeForce GTX 280 and the Radeon HD 4870 are aging cards now, so most gaming PCs should be able to match these for performance. One hangup may be the 25GB install size which seems pretty large. This is probably due to a large number of uncompressed cutscenes so this might mean some pretty hefty download times for some. All in all though it doesn't look like there's much in the way of PC gamers to experience one of the gaming greats, so enjoy Valkyria Chronicles!

Remember, you can always check out how well your PC can run the Valkyria Chronicles System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Valkyria Chronicles benchmark chart

Pleased with these low-end specifications for Valkyria Chronicles? Will you be giving this tactical role-playing game a whirl?

Yes there is something called the GTS 240... I think it is a souped up GT 240 or a downgraded GTS 250...

Hmm. Weird. Why didn't they just say GT 240 or GTS 250 then? :/

Very sensible minimum requirements but for some reason I find the recommended GPU ones very way off because of the game's Gurumin styled graphics the rest is very fine for me

I hope for gamer's sake the port is not as terrible as FFXIII.

Relative to what this game offers technologically, the system requirements are pretty high... GTS 240 may actually be able to max this game on 900p no problem despite being touted here as minimum... Those CPU and RAM requirements seem somewhat accurate though...

Yeah I guess you could look at it that way, but by today's standards these are still pretty low. I'd imagine this is being thrown together in a matter of months because they don't feel it's demanding enough to warrant optimisation.
