Rockstar has at last taken the wraps off of the Grand Theft Auto V remake coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A host of screenshots and footage have surfaced of the gorgeous-looking remake, with the best visuals hitting the PC version, which will have support for up 4K resolution.
Aside from the obvious graphical improvements it’s the inclusion of a fully-fledged first-person mode that has turned most heads, allowing gamers to play GTA V from start to finish entirely as an FPS. This extends to everything from first-person piloting to unloading clips in a gang war, with GTA 5 remade from the ground up to support this mode.
“Obviously, we felt like one of the most compelling things you could do to make an experience people have had before feel different was the new first-person mode,” said GTA V’s animation director Rob Nelson. “It’s a very intense, in-your-face experience… literally.”
Of course adding a first-person mode isn’t a simple task, and Rockstar has had to drastically increase the visual fidelity of Grand Theft Auto V, including improved textures and thousands of new NPC animations. You can check it out for yourself in the impressive new video below.
The first-person antics extend to GTA Online, where it can be forced in certain game modes for for proper FPS shootouts and in-car races. Rockstar also claims the long-awaited heists are ready to make an appearance soon, although it doesn’t look like they’ll be in at launch.
In addition to the trailer Rockstar also sent along a bunch of screenshots, showcasing the massive graphical improvements coming our way for the current-gen GTA 5.
