Lead Designer of The Crew anticipates a Smooth and Stable launch

Lead designer of The Crew, Serkan Hasan, foresees an untroubled launch for the upcoming open-world racer driving into view on December 2nd.

2014 has seen serious technical difficulties hamper the releases of three other of publisher Ubisoft's major releases: Watch Dogs, Far Cry 4 and most notably Assassin's Creed: Unity, for which Season Pass sales were cancelled and free DLC was offered in apology. Hasan is confident, though, that The Crew will not share these misfortunes.

Speaking in an interview, Hasan says: "For The Crew, we’ve reaped the benefits of a long term beta program, designed specifically to push our infrastructure as far as possible in real world situations, with thousands of players from all over the world playing the game at the same time."

"The launch of any online game these days has potential issues, but I hope that players will be encouraged by our open approach. If you had any doubts that we could pull this off, I hope that the betas proved our credentials and the game’s stability."

Nevertheless, Ubisoft isn't taking any chances with the game's early reception. A blog post issued on the 24th November assures eager players that reviewers won't have access to the game until launch, and that the reviews posted on that day "won’t be based on optimal conditions or reflect the finished game", by dint of being "largely built around the preview sessions we facilitated during the past months or the limited content of the closed and open betas".

"The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world," Ubisoft adds. "And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players – something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press."

Best of luck, Mr Hasan and Ubisoft. The Crew is available December 2nd for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. To check your system is ready to run it, visit Game-Debate's dedicated The Crew page here. Be on the lookout for The Crew benchmarks throughout this week, as well as a review once we've had enough hands-on time.

Hmm... Something doesn't sound right about this. "Untroubled launch" & "reviewers won't have access to the game until launch, and that the reviews posted on that day won’t be based on optimal conditions or reflect the finished game" Are they serious? An untroubled launch of an unfinished game, & reviewers are going to be trolls because the game is not optimal? ROTFLAMO!!!

A smooth and stable launch? What's that? I don't know that phrase. It sounds familiar though.

The Beta version ran flawlessly on my 270X. The only thing that happened was when I changed the frame cap from 30 to 60, I was driving along happily at around 45 fps and then my system froze up for about 2 seconds and then recovered. After that hiccup, the game ran at 60 fps with NO drops whatsoever. None. :D

It also seems you have kept your word on removing the frame cap at launch day! Here's to you Ubisoft!

Yeah published by EA and made by Ghost Games. Really didn't like it myself, hoping EA gets them back on track with a new Burnout title, it's been too long!

I'm pretty sure deploying Frostbite for a racing game is just a bad idea, visuals are too distracting and vehicle behaviour&physics are nowhere as good as old good Burnout Paradise or FlatOut 2 or NFS: Most Wanted (2005)

I read somewhere that they were developing a burnout title and physics of NFS Rivals are very very very bad. To say none of the companies had got real competitors (newer) against EA racing games. The closest was Forza Horizon which wasnt as arcade as I was hoping for.

visuals are too distracting

Lel, you do make some valid points though, didn't know they used the Frostbite 3 Engine for a racing game, and ofcourse the physics of frostbite engine are horrible and glitchy still.

I want to believe developer guy, but I simply will never again trust Ubisoft after the annoyance that was Watch_Dogs, the disaster that is Unity and basically the (Censored) the PC gaming community has had to put up with. Always there's a lead developer kinda character, who is unknown to all, outing in utmost confidence that this time will be different. I hope everyone will show patience and wait until reliable reviewers will review the game. I know atleast I will.

Side note: I am a victim of AC: Unity, never again. Not even gonna benchmark it, with horrible stuttering it ran around 37 fps on low, 900p.

Highly doubt it, totalbiscuit is running an I7-5xxx 8 core + 2xGTX 980, and he can barely keep the game above the 60's on high, I would suggest checking on your friend, because what you claim is simply not possible. Also this is my test rig, I am currently using a GTX 760.

Many sources do seem to agree with me though, how odd.

EDIT: Seems like I missed the optimization update, however from what I read online they only lowered overall texture quality, lighting quality and draw distance. Now playable at high settings, sitting around 40ish fps.

I had a quick go of it earlier and it all seems good so far, but obviously there hasn't been the launch server crush just yet!

Just installed the new gigantic update, seems like it improved a great deal for me, can now play the game at med-high settings around 40ish fps, it does however still dip into the 20's unfortunately. How's your experience in a bit more detail?

I know someone who played AC Unity, so this game caused GPU Overheating for him (about 95 c), and then his computer started to crash randomly because of this game. (He has GTX 770).

I wish progress from the beta's were saved. It's going to be like starting the game all over for the third time.
