The fourth patch for Assassin’s Creed: Unity was due to arrive today and fix remaining issues with the game and improve performance, especially in multiplayer, but it hasn't showed up.

A news bulletin on Ubisoft’s website for unity explains that the patch is on hold because the team have decided to take the promised improvements a big step further, which will involve fully refurbishing the in-game city of Paris. The new release date for patch 4 isn't given, but Ubi’s assertion that the further work will take “a few more days” provides a slim hope that it won’t be desperately long.

Assassin’s Creed Unity has been plagued with buggy problems since launch, many of which have been resolved in the previous 3 patches, but many still remain, which has prompted a lot of discussion over oppressive release targets for developers and unfinished releases. Why not join in and have your say in our Up For Debate segment?

Ubisoft’s note on the delay says, “rigorous quality control is of paramount importance to us … we are choosing to hold off until we can give you the improvements we've promised. We are committed to delivering major performance improvements … to hit the high level of quality our players deserve”. Do these words sound hollow after the game’s buggy launch? Or perhaps developers sometimes take on too much at a time to meet the demands of ever-hungry gamers?

Fingers crossed that Patch 4 arrives soon and smoothes out Unity once and for all; we’ll keep you posted. And in case you haven't heard, Ubisoft is offering the Dead Kings DLC for free by way of an apology for the troubles, or a free game for those who bought the ill-fated season pass or the Gold Edition from the following list: The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Rayman Legends, Just Dance 2015. Not too shabby. The website to visit to redeem your free game should be going live this week.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity is still an incredibly beautiful franchise entry, that we've scored an 8/10. Check our page for the system requirements to run it. And if you’re out and about around the web, don’t forget to take us with you to keep you informed on whether you can run anything you find out there, thanks to our neat browser extension.

UBISOFT...PLEASE READ THIS....STOP MAKING 3RD PERSON GAMES......YOU HAVE TOTALLY LOST IT.....FOCUS MORE ON GAMES LIKE FAR CRY, and RAINBOW SIX...I REALLY MISS THE OLD GAMES YOU MADE. THEY WERE ATLEAST PLAYABLE!

I read on the Ubisoft page that Assassin's Creed: Black Flag was also on the free game list. Has something changed? http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/en-US/community/liveupdates/live_updates_details.aspx?c=tcm:152-186650-16&ct=tcm:148-76770-32

"rigorous quality control is of paramount importance to us"
Lying hypocrites. They release a game that is almost as buggy as Bf4 was at launch and talk about quality control. A game that doesn't run well on any system is a big fat fail

They want to "refurbish" the map and that way they'll fix the performance. What will they actually do with the map?

I think they'll remake it, more optimized. :)

don't be ignoranrt... just because they have problems with ONE game, which is epic, btw, doesn't mean they are disappointing, especially after the game is amazing...

AC 3 yes, but AC black flag had good performance, so did watch dogs, keep in mind they are all open world games with a lot of processes happening, and until unity they were using an engine that was upgraded so often since 2004 until 2013 to the part it was called AnvilNext and not Anvil 1.0 or such and it finally crashed down and for unity, well first they had a new engine second they rushed the game and third they should stop using co-processors and gpu accelerators for making their games... no wonder they tought the performance was decent upon release...

These are all things ubisoft should be getting right especially when they are charging 50 pound or dollas on release. The game was unfinished on release that is why they need a 6gb patch now to fix it. It has took them a month to patch it 4 times, they could have just moved the release date back and have a more polished game. Also with watch dogs the e3 trailers and the final product did not look the same at all. After all these game releases Ubisoft should have learnt there lesson by now, but they haven't.

Dude when it comes to developing multiple AAA games(AC unity, AC rogue, The Crew and Far Cry 4) you can't just sit around, the presure is too high both for ubisoft and for their studios. :)
Also IMO performance doesn't make the game worse and I really dislike when people say a game is bad just because of poor performance. :/

So you think they should release a game unfinished and charge full price for it? Its no benefit to them as we saw when they gave games away for free when they pulled season pass to fix the game. Also if a game is unplayable because of performance it could hardly be called good, now I am not saying the game is bad but you would get a better gaming experience with a better optimized game like Thief or Alien Isolation great games and well optimized.

well it's not like they would do it on purpose, they wouldn't do it if they could just wait more, they are not stupid, they are actually very smart, but with big games come big investments and a lot of money spent, and there is a point where you need to make money from that investment, Ubisoft's case all the games they were making AT THE SAME TIME, that's the biggest problem, they should calm their b**ls and just release AAA games with a 6 months - 1 year and a half delay from yeach other, then they won't worry about money.
