And so we find ourselves at the first weekend of 2015. After what’s been a hectic few months filled with a flurry of huge gaming releases, it’s time to sit back, take stock, and play some games. Many of you will no doubt have picked up or (hopefully!) been gifted a number of titles over the holiday season, but now you’ve finally got a clear weekend to get your gaming on.
It might be wet and miserable outside, but for a gamer that signals the perfect opportunity to begin hibernation with your latest title. If it’s not wet and miserable where you are then congratulations are in order, you’re free to go outside! For the rest of you though, it’s that time of the month once more where we can get together and chat about our weekend’s gaming plans, no matter what you're playing we want to know!
Jon - I’ve been getting a minor adventure game itch as of late, so I’ll be practicing a spot of pointing and click with the original Deponia. I’m already a few hours in and a classic it is not, but it’s a serviceable enough adventure with some mildly amusing translation oddities that has been enough to keep me hooked. Other than that I’ll no doubt find yet more time for a spot of FIFA 15. I’m currently up to division 6 in season mode, and the competition is getting extremely tight. My play style has basically had to adapt to just prevent a goal going in at all costs, and maybe, just maybe, sneaking in a cheeky header at the other end. I’m meeting a fair few footie wizards along the way though who able to waltz through me like a hot knife through butter.
Squee - I have been playing the latest DLC for the almost-indescribably wonderful Crusader Kings 2, and also taking a look at the latest DLC for the easily-describable and pretty good Space Hulk Ascension. I have also been floored by a wicked cold. The upshot of this particular mixture has been fevered dreams about Space Marines invading medieval Pomerania, and banquets with a Genestealer Prince of Wales.
Felix - When on the move, as I was a lot during the Holiday period, I would turn to my Nexus 10, and, in particular, Breach and Clear. A great strategy title where you take a squad of 4 hardcore spec ops members through a variety of missions to kill terrorists. Its the perfect game for a tablet and the missions can be completed in just a handful of minutes. Your reward for mission completion is a bunch of XP for your 4 guys and some game dollars that you can spend on upgrading their equipment. As my time to game is snatched in tiny short bursts B&C is perfect. PC game-wise I also need to lean towards a game that provides similar instant, mindless action. And so it's Far Cry 4 that keeps getting loaded up. Lots of mayhem fun and it can be played in a variety of ways, from slightly stealthy through to shooting grenade launchers from a gyrocopter at armed convoys of bad guys.
So, GDers, it’s over to you. Are you still going to be partying like it's New Year's Eve, or you knuckling down to some serious gaming action? Tell us what you’ll be playing this weekend in the comments below!
