Lionhead Studios and Microsoft have announced that the previously Xbox One-exclusive Fable Legends will now be launching simultaneously on PC, with full cross-platform play between PC and Xbox One gamers.

In addition Fable Legends will be one of the first titles to come with full DirectX 12 support on Windows, provided PC users have a DirectX 11-compatible graphics card. While the game is due to launch on both platforms on the same day, Xbox One and Windows 10 users will be subject to different public beta testing schedules.

Due to its cross-connectivity and DX12 support Fable Legends will be exclusive to Windows 10 users only. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem for most though, with Microsoft also announcing the Windows 10 would be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users.

"We think enabling people to play multiplayer games on Windows 10, across Xbox One and Windows 10, will unlock the potential of Xbox Live and grow the social network that's there today," head of Xbox Phil Spencer said.

The latest title in Lionhead’s fantasy series pitches a player-controlled dungeon master against four intrepid adventurers in asymmetric multiplayer. The villainous solo player must set up traps and place enemies in order to defeat the dungeon-plunging party of four.

Intriguingly Microsoft also writes in a press release that “Fable Legends is just the first of the major game franchises from Microsoft Studios coming to Windows 10 and we will have more to share in the coming months.” What other Xbox One exclusive titles would you like to see come over to PC? Could this genuinely be an attempt from Microsoft to reinvigorate Windows as a gaming platform after abandoning it for so long?

This sounds like a dirty joke. I like it! ;-P

Tbh I'm not overly fussed about the announcement of this game so much, but it is nice to hear that there is already a game (hopefully many more will follow now) with DX12 support on the horizon. I feel it is only necessary to say: "Please sir, can I have some more?" :-P

Highly doubt it. Microsoft may as well kill the Xbox One if they were to do that, because there would then be no point of owning an Xbox One if you could play all games on PC
