The Guinness World Record for the biggest FPS battle in history was set by Planetside 2 players over the weekend. More than 1000 people gathered to become part of a titanic battle that would go down in gaming history, attempting to officially reclaim the Guinness World Record for ‘Most Players Online in an FPS Battle.’

The record was previously held by Man vs Machine who created a game back in 2012 purely for the purposes of beating the record set by Planetside. They were probably a bit miffed they only managed to get 999 players concurrently, one short of that elusive thousand, but Planetside 2 players have well and truly smashed that record anyway with a 1,158 player faceoff. In Battlefield 4 maths, that’s the equivalent of 18 full-capacity 64-player servers simultaneously. Kaboom indeed.

Community-run Planetside 2 fan site Planetside Battles organised the bout, which saw a massive 53,729 kills, 31 base captures, and more than 7,500 vehicles destroyed. There’s was also a fair of agony in seeing that there were a total of 3,822 team kills, or an average of three team kills per player. Please, for the love of God, never pick up a real gun Planetside 2 fans.

You can see the carnage for yourself in the video below but beware, the audio content may make your ears bleed.

And GD’ers part of this massive occasion? Would you like to see more titles attempt such large-scale multiplayer warfare?

Love the video! Ending was pretty legit. Lol. Since it were NC anyways. Fits well.

But this video just makes me want to forget about paying off the car and just buying myself an "end-all" (For my uses) gaming PC and play it.

I wish I could've joined! Congrats on the record especially to the core fans of the series, the players from ps1 that are still around. Ps2 has really come a long way, i can finally run it above 30 fps when there are tons of people nearby. The cpu optimization is the best i've seen given the technical challenge. Bravo!

I have an xbox 360... Simple thing to do is just play Halo normally with TV volume lower and wear headphones connected to phone playing this song...
