Gluttons for punishment rejoice! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will feature a terrifying permadeath Dark difficulty, CD Projekt RED has revealed. If you’re fan of making it near the end of a hundred-hour long RPG and slipping off a cliff at the last moment following a rather forceful sneeze, you’re in luck.
The new Dark Difficulty will not only feature permadeath, but will also feature more and deadlier enemies intent on turning you into just another cadaver. “If you die five minutes before the ending, it’s over,” said quest designer Phillip Weber in an interview.
“Usually normal is easy, and easy is – well, you can be on your phone while playing.” Weber continued. “We want it to be easy to learn but hard to master.” Just the prospect of losing progress permanently in a massive RPG is enough to drive me insane, but Weber insists there are plenty of gamers out there that crave this sort of challenge. Dark Difficulty first surfaced when the CD Projekt RED staffers wanted a challenge for themselves, with many craving a “real challenge.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out on May 19th worldwide, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Would you be willing to undertake a permadeath version of The Witcher 3? Or would you prefer to coast through on an easier setting?
