Hatred System Requirements

Destructive Creations' Hatred has courted controversy every step of the way. From that reveal trailer, to being booted from Steam Greenlight, to Gabe Newell himself finally intervening and getting Hatred back up for the community vote. Predictably enough Hatred became the most popular title on Greenlight within a matter of minutes, and it's now become the first ever title with an Adults Only rating to be granted a full release on Steam.

A twin-stick shooter in which The Antagonist is battling against the entirety of humanity, Hatred is all about exactly that, Hatred. Fed up with humanity's worthless existence, your aim is to head out onto the New York streets on the hunt, armed with an ultra-violent arsenal of weapons. The Antagonist is certainly a nasty fella, I wonder if that's because he's had a look at the official Hatred system requirements...

Hatred Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-750 2.6GHz  or AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz
  • RAM: 4GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 1GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5850
  • HDD: 8GB Free Hard Drive Space
  • DX: DirectX 11

Hatred Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2400S 2.5GHz or AMD FX 8350 4.0GHz
  • RAM: 8GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 2GB Video Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon R9 290X

It's little wonder there's so much anger wrapped up in this title with system requirements like this. Hatred's due out in Q2 2015 and Destructive Creations has said these Hatred requirements might change slightly in the run up to the launch. Looking at them now though, they are absolutely massive.

The minimum requirements for Hatred are no laughing matter, asking for a decent quad-core i5-750 or Phenom II X4 955 processor, and a middle-of-the-road graphics card in the shape of a GTX 460 for team green or a Radeon HD 5850 from AMD. Hatred is being created in Unreal Engine 4, so it's got some powerful tools behind it but it's essentially a top-down shooter, so relatively high demands for its minimum requirements are surprising. In terms of operating systems Hatred is 64-bit only, which shouldn't prove a problem to most, but it's also DX11-only as well.

Moving on to the recommended Hatred requirements and these are absolutely sky high. In fact these really aren't too far off of Assassin's Creed Unity so we'd like to see a hefty drop before launch. Both the GTX 680 and the Radeon R9 290X are absolute top-end cards from the last couple of years, while the processors are no slouches either. 8GB RAM is also at the top-end, and it's a real struggle to see where Destructive Creations is intending to use all this power available to it.

Remember, you can always check out how well your PC can run the Hatred System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Hatred benchmark chart

I really hate GPU specs that show "1GB" or "2GB", because I have a 2GB card, but I'm sure it won't run those games.

I am just guessing that the special effects on this game must be pretty demanding because the game doesn't look good enough to need the recommended requirements.

Even those minimum requirements seem way too high for a top-down title...

I agree, but we really don't know what the deal is until we can try it out. There is probably going to be a ton of NPCs & particle effects is what I am thinking.

Well, do you want me to upgrade to an expensive and one of the best gpus just to spend about 15 hours playing your stupid game?
I don't think so...never gonna happen, you trolls!

Better i return to play starbound. I don´t understand why in the United States and other countries some people go to really kill other people. Maybe the true response is the true hate that many try to teach us: to hate the different people

wowowowow! the graphcis of this level looked nowhere near to needing this kind of requirements! these are are pretty much freaking far cry 4 recommended requirements for ultra settings 60 fps! and i am not even going to comment on the GPU recommended requirements... (same as far cry 4 too. which run perfectly fine on all gpus btw)

Is this bad optimisation or do they have something amazing for a top-down shooter planned?

High requirements doesn't automatically mean bad optimization. I've played games with low requirements that still ran terribly.

I'm thinking there might be some third-person or even a first-person aspect to the game. Would be cool to see, and if they are able to pull it off spectacularly!

So whats more controversial? The objectives in this game or the system requirements?

Depends on who you ask, here we are all riled up on bad system requirement statements but the main populous is concerned with the macabre game haha

Took the word right outta my mouth... Also, can someone tell me why a top-down title has such requirements...? And only 8 GB HDD space...? LoL Whut...? After all the mammoth HDD requirements we've been seeing lately, it just seems weird...

And why does the game require 8GB RAM?

Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes[ Released on Pc in December 2014] requires 4gb HDD Space and it was/is a very short game. Hatred could also be a short game as it requires 8Gb HDD Space.

Heard the game was getting an AO rating, meaning that Steam won't allow it unless they change their policies, which is unlikely. Considering Steam is the only reason this game exists, sales shouldn't be stellar.

Wow AMD, purposely thwarting their attempts at optimization because you don't like their game, real mature.

Well neither is Nvidia. I can honestly see why they did this from a business perspective. For the most part, the general population will be fed the whole thing about how this game will cause people to go out and do harm to others. No one would want to be a sponsor for something like that, because the general population doesn't think for themselves, and will bash others that do.

To me,the most shocking thing isn't the proportion of Nvidia vs AMD GPU,but how can a top-down game be so demanding.

This may be due to the infamous reputation this game has received. I imagine neither of the vendors want to be associated and also don't want to offer their services for optimisation. They may only have access to Nvidia hardware right now, which may explain why the game favors them

The dev posted this on one of the Steam thread:
Hatred game is not sponsored by Nvidia. The requirements are not yet 100% adequate to the final that will be shown after game is ready for releas

this isnt an excuse. if developers said "the game is sponsored by nvidia" then things are pretty simple.. look at the way PC gaming is heading. hardware manufacturers sponsoring games to run better on their hardware... sad.

Using what as an excuse? I said that neither vendor may want to be involved and the dev may only have nvidia hardware right now to test it. Plus it's not 100% done so the requirements will change.

These kind of requirements are why I have trust issues. I mean 290x vs 680? really?

Sky high requirements aside lets look at the performance difference, A 680 in QUAD SLI!!! is just a smidgen more than the performance of a 290X. Yes cards don't scale perfectly in sli, but it still takes four 680s to beat the 290x.
