It's not every day you can chart a ship to the infinite boundaries of space courtesy of Sid Meier's himself, but the legendary game director is back with an interplanetary companion piece to Civilization: Beyond Earth. In Sid Meier's Starships you'll need to build and command a gigantic fleet of space ships in order travel between planets and expand humanity to new worlds.

Set within the very same universe as Civilization: Beyond Earth, Sid Meier's Starships offers cross-connectivity between the two, allowing planets to be found and colonized through a new galaxy of adventure. Galactic supremacy is all well and good, but if you want to join the space race you'll need a rig up to the task. Read on to check out the official Sid Meier's Starships system requirements.

Sid Meier's Starships Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows Vista 32-bit Service Pack 2
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.0 GHz
  • RAM: 2 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 256MB
  • GPU: GeForce 8800 GT, Radeon HD 2600 XT or Intel HD Graphics 4000 Desktop
  • HDD: 841MB available space
  • DX: DirectX 10

Unfortunately Firaxis only sent along minimum requirements for Sid Meier's Starships, but it's likely these hardware demands will be decent enough to get Starships looking as good as it needs to. A top-down turn-based 4X game, Sid Meier's Starships likely won't be too demanding at all, and this is reflected in the system requirements which are right at the lower end.

There's nothing here to cause undue worry, the dedicated graphics cards demanded are almost a decade old now, and you can even get away with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics if you want to take Sid Meier's Starships on the move with your laptop.

Remember, you can always check out how well your PC can run the Sid Meier's Starships System Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users. Compare your graphics card to the Sid Meier's Starships benchmark chart

If you want to quickly see how Sid Meier's Starships will run on your PC then remember you can now take GD with you to check any website against any PC using our Chrome GD Anywhere Extension.

What do you make of Sid Meier's Starships system requirements? Will you be giving this a download when it blasts off this week?

I am usually fairly up to date with gaming news and releases but somehow this game slipped through the cracks and I had no idea it even existed until I ran across it on the Steam Discovery queue a few days ago. I'm pretty excited for it and it is nice to see that a lot of people should be able to experience it as well.

Is Core Deo supposed to be the successor to the Duo?

These system requirements are something you don't see everyday.

9 Years this year i believe.

8800 was twice as fast as it's predecessor, something you don't see these days anymore

8800GT was once the fastest card during it's time. I still have it, thought HD 7790 eats it for breakfast

LOL, I'd say probably half my Steam library has the 8800 GT in their requirements, surprisingly even as a recommended requirement in a few of them! XD

Nice system requirements, but my HP Compaq 6730b still won't run it because of its terrible graphics (GMA 4500M HD, similar performance to GeForce 6200) :P

My laptop won't run it either, with its awesome ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics....... yes I said ATI folks.......AT friggen I. Surprisingly though, even though it's integrated, it still has 256MB dedicated graphics RAM

You know, the funny part is, alot of people say "anything under 60 FPS is unplayable", they should talk to ANYONE who's ever been forced to game on a (non-gaming)laptop, we have a far greater understanding of just what UNPLAYABLE really means, I've chugged all the way through games at under 15FPS.

oh yeah Skippy, I know exactly how you feel, I've run games at 15 on this thing all the way up to 60. So yeah, I agree with everything you said.

This^ Even many games that run in the 20fps are playable, though 30+ is recommended.
