Microsoft confirmed earlier today Windows 10 will be launching worldwide this summer, and all of us who've got copies of Windows 7 or 8 will be offered free upgrades when it arrives. In addition to the all the tweaks and changes we've come to expect from a new operating system, it's the inclusion of DirectX 12 support that's of most interest to gamers.

Of course the key thing with any new operating system is making sure your PC's up to scratch, so read on to check out Microsoft's official minimum system requirements needed for Windows 10.

Windows 10 32-bit Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 32-bit
  • CPU: Pentium 4 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1600+ 1.4 GHz
  • RAM: 1 GB System Memory
  • GPU: GeForce 6500 or Radeon HD 2100
  • HDD: 16GB available space
  • DX: DirectX 9
  • Resolution: At least 800x600 resolution monitor, 1024x768 to run Windows Store apps.

Windows 10 64-bit Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • CPU: Pentium Dual Core E2180 2.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz
  • RAM: 2 GB System Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 230 or AMD Radeon HD 4650
  • HDD: 20GB Available Space
  • DX: DirectX 9
  • Resolution: At least 800x600 resolution monitor, 1024x768 to run Windows Store apps.

Being designed to work on mobile devices as well as desktops, Windows 10 is predictably extremely lightweight on hardware demands. The hardware requirements for Windows 10 are much the same Windows 8; the only thing to watch out for iss the slightly added demands if you want a 64-bit systems. Obviously a 64-bit processor is a must, which any PC bought in the last five years should almost definitely have, as well as a doubling of memory demands to 2GB. This is the absolute minimum required for Windows 10 though, so if you're planning on having a lot of windows and activity going on at once your system may begin to slow down.

If you can run Windows 7 or Windows 8 fine then you won't have any problems running Windows 10. Computing power has far exceeded operating system demands in recent years, with Windows 10 optimised for use in tablets, mobile devices, and behind the scenes on the Xbox One.

What do you make of the Windows 10 system requirements? Surprised by how light the demands are?

Just to clear some things up about Windows 10! They are saying Windows 7+ will have a free upgrade for a year!

Meaning: You will have Windows 10 for free, for a year. After the year you will have to purchase the OS! Please understand!
