If you’ve got a serious wedge of money just burning a hole in your pocket and dying to be spent then G.Skill has you covered. The memory manufacturer has released the high capacity 128GB DDR4 RAM kit, making it the fastest memory kit in the world.
The 128GB DDR4-2800 memory kit comes packing eight 16GB modules for the ultimate in memory performance. Built on Samsunng’s 8GB DDR4 chips using the 20nm manufacturing process, these eight 16GB 288-pin sticks are clocked at 2800MHz with CL16 16-16-36 timings at 1.35V.
The memory is designed for Intel X99 chipsets currently support by the Intel Core i7-5800 and i7-5900-series processors. The total memory bandwidth with all of these in is a hefty 86.9GB/s.
“During development of these DDR4 16GB modules, we see amazing future potential for 128GB (16GBx8) memory kits in extreme high capacity operation on upcoming platforms,” said Tequila Huang, vice president of research and development at G.Skill. “We will be witnessing the beginning of a new set of standards for extreme capacity and performance DDR4 memory kits on both current and future computing platforms. Needless to say, we are very excited for this release.”
A high-end kit like this is only really necessary for those looking for server power, but it would also offer extreme desktop gaming performance, although the word overkill springs to mind.
Pricing has yet to be announced for the 128GB DDR4-2800 memory kit, although we're likely to see prices above and beyond $1500.
