It’s taken more than twelve months, but From Software has at last tackled the weapon durability problem in Dark Souls 2, issuing an update. From Software, in their infinite wisdom, decided to tie weapon durability directly to frame rate. On Dark Souls 2 for consoles this was fine at 30fps, but on PC this meant 60fps players were having their weapons degrade twice as fast, often wearing out after brief runs through areas.

Left untackled for over a year, and still featuring in the Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin remaster this, it has finally been fixed. The cynics among us will point to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions as the reason for the update after all this time. The switch to 60fps (usually) on consoles meant it also affected those versions too. What the reason, the fix is here.

Patch Notes: Fixed issue whereby weapon durability was decreased drastically when used on enemy corpses, friendly characters, etc. (Especially apparent for users running the game at 60 fps as the durability decrease rate was linked to the frame rate).

Most PC Dark Souls 2 players have likely been using DS2Fix in the meantime, but it’s emerged players are being semi-banned from the online component for using the fix. Rather than outright blocking players from the game, the soft ban only allows users to play online with other banned players.

What do you make of From Software taking so long to tackle a known bug? Was the durability glitch a major problem for you? Let us know!

Even with that bug this game was still amazing.

So strange though they let it go for so long.

Something I find troubling with this article, is that the bug was not in SOTFS. I own the game, and i dont lose 10 durability from hitting the floor...

Idk why people still think this bug is a thing in SOTFS. I did an entire boss without losing more then 7 durability.

It is definitely patched just because of consoles. From software prefers developing games for consoles after all. Which is ok...it's their choice. But fixing this a year later is really stupid.

Faith is still useless...

I can always carry 7 great swords around but "lightning spear" cast times are a joke.

I think because PC already has a workaround From Software does not feel obliged to sadly come up with a stable patch.

The pc patch did already come out. It wasn't a steam update. I think it was just a server side update. Because on the original came, durability doesnt go down

So no love for the PC gamers eh? They only decided to fix the issue only due to the effect that first generation console having the issue. The only reason why it was patched was because of the next gen consoles, so I see this as a blatant middle finger to the PC gamers (not bashing console players consoles are cool XD). MY solution to this; never buying from Software ever, for the simple reason if you ignore a player base you will piss them off, so I vote with my wallet.Ciao

Over a year for the first patch, no thanks; rather spend my greenbacks somewhere else.
