So you’ve installed your shiny new copy of Windows 10 and you’ve clicked around a bit, but if you’re on the hunt for exclusive games and features then you’ve no doubt noticed they’re in short supply right now. Which is why the Fable Legends PC beta might well pique your interest. Not only is Fable Legends Windows 10-only on PC, but it’s also going to be one of the first games to take advantage of the much-touted DirectX 12.

Beta signups are live now for Windows 10 users, with Lionhead starting to roll out invites to the test later this month. It’s cross-platform as well, so PC gamers are going to be able to settle some old scores with Xbox gamers, in 4v1 asynchronous multiplayer.

"Our Xbox One Closed Beta kicked off late last year, and so far our growing community of Beta Testers have not just helped test the game, they’ve also proven to be an invaluable source of feedback, insights and ideas. We really can’t wait to bring some Windows 10 PC gamers into our already thriving community," wrote Lionhead Studios.

Branching out from the traditional Fable titles, Fable Legends is a free-to-play co-operative RPG, where a team of heroes must take on a player controlled villain. The villain is essentially the dungeon master, controlling monster spawn points, laying traps, and unleashing boss creatures. The bad guy’s role is more akin to a real-time strategy game, which should make it the perfect fit for PC gamers.

Dx12 won't make a difference in terms of performance for the consumer, rather the devs will be able to make the games look better with the same hardware, but requirements will still go up.

I hope my 980 Ti lasts me at least 2 years of 1080p60 ultra gaming.

That's pretty much exactly the way I'm thinking as well.... I'd like to see it open up more gaming options to those with lower end hardware, and make it so frame rates are rock solid consistent.... but I just don't think it's going to work that way....... I don't think DX12 will be our "savior" that it's hyped to be, but more likely just another tool.

I hope I didn't just sign up for a friggen moba..... because from the description it sounds like it's crossing dangerously into moba territory....... but part of me wants to believe it's going to play more like a multiplayer version of Overlord.

its more like tower defense and evolve
1 bad guy defends his dungeon against 3 good guys, its not as much top view as mobas are

still not my game type

well, this game is built to promote win 10 and dx12 so i think it might not be convincing. We should see how other games from other devs perform. only then we can actually know how well dx 12 is helping gamers :)

Exactly, and in all honesty, I just don't think we gamers are going to see much of a difference.... requirements will continue to go up as always, and the games that we're playing now are going to play exactly the same because most won't ever get proper DX12 optimization.... so, yeah, future games are going to get a little prettier, and that's really about it.
