There Will Be No Elder Scrolls VI For A Very Long Time Claims Bethesda

Fallout 4’s out in three months, but that hasn’t stopped a large portion of Bethesda’s fanbase asking when The Elder Scrolls VI will be out. The answer is in ‘a very long time’, so if you’ve been eagerly anticipating a sequel for the last four years, you might want to disembark from the hype train for a few stops.

Pete Hines, VP of PR and marketing at Bethesda Softworks, is in the know, and he claims there are no plans for a new Elder Scrolls game in the near to mid-term future, so we could have a wait on our hands. That’s not to say Bethesda isn’t already working on the game, but something as ambitious as The Elder Scrolls VI will surely be, will need plenty of time in the oven.

Hines confirmed as much in an interview, saying it would be “a very long time” before Bethesda would want to talk about it

At the moment Bethesda’s focus is firmly on Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls Online. Despite a shaky launch for the latter, it’s really improved over the last year, and the console launch has proven a surprising success. Expect plenty of additional content packs and support for TESO in the coming years.

Fallout 4 meanwhile is out November 10th, when it’ll be hitting PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Happy with getting Fallout 4 this year, or were you holding out hope for The Elder Scrolls VI? Which is your favourite out of the two series?

If Bethesda working more on Fallout 4 means several huge expansions I'm glad they won't be going straight to Elders Scrolls 6 or whatever else. I love both series but this is something I always expect from them and I have a feeling it's be closer to Shivering Isles than Dragonborn or Dawnguard.

I think they should spend some time making an amazing game engine that runs silky smooth and will hold up in future years. Then create one of the continents. Then develop the other continents over several years until it has all of Tamriel in it. Single player, or 2-4 man co-op of course. I would buy the **** out of that.

Hmm Eso was bad. I had high hopes for TES6. What they should add is a co-up (with like 3 friends) rather than a massive online game.

I like elder scrolls waayyy better, but if they want to take years and years to create it, I'll wait, it'll give me time to save for a behemoth rig that'll rush out frames to the monitor faster than you can say 120 FPS!!!

Makes me a little sad. The Elder Scrolls was one of the first Bethesda games I ever played. But I'll have the wasteland of Boston to explore while I wait :D

Well, they will need to work on fallout 4 DLC which may take 2 years. I also think they jmust already have a small team working on TES VI. So, maybe 4-5 years lol.

Given that ES is their flagship franchise, and the quality is always higher than their Fallout games, you can be certain they've had a team working on it since the day the last Skyrim DLC was released.

I can't believe its been 4-5 yrs since New Vegas. You're probably right about 4-5 yrs for the next ES game. This will make it 8-10 yrs between ES installments!

Bethesda didn't develop New Vegas though. That was Obsidian. The last Fallout game Bethesda developed was Fallout 3, & it released in October of 2008. So it will have been 7 years since Bethesda's last Fallout game when Fallout 4 launches later this year. I expect about the same for the next Elder Scrolls. Probably a fall 2018 or 2019 release window for ES6.

You're right LeadstarDude, I didn't know that. I did play and enjoy NV though, unlike ESO. I hope that the next 'proper' ES game is as least no later than 2018!

Oh I still love NV. I still play it at least 2 or 3 times a month. I also love Obsidian. They are one of my favorite developers. NV is one of my favorite games & so is KOTOR 2. Remember that Obsidian developed KOTOR 2 as well. I have been playing that a lot lately since it recently got updated to HD resolutions with controller support & Steam Workshop mod support. It looks & feels like a whole new game again. :D

well keep in mind they released that TES MMO... so it's the gap between it and TES VI that you should look at.

ESO isn't developed by Bethesda but Zenimax Online,so ESO shouldn't affect ES6 releasing at all. Bethesda only released ESO

yes, but the money they spent was not little and it's an MMO, there is a chance of no proper TES game until the MMO dies....

I don't see why they would wait ESO to die because only loser would be Bethesda. ESO makes money,it takes long time before it pays itself back prolly but ES6 would sell so much after success of ES5. imo it's just stupid to wait too much after such success.

You have to consider the fact that Elder Scrolls 6 has to be gigantic. It has to excel in every aspect. Graphics, mechanics, stability, lore, story. Everything has to be beyond the scope of Skyrim. Think about how richly filled every Elder Scrolls game is. They will want to make a world matching the size of The Witcher 3, if not bigger, and that will take time. Rest assured that it will be awesome

Fallout 4 is pretty much a test demo for the 64-bit architecture. If Fallout 4 runs well, ESVI will run amazing.

I would say if this MMO thingy will go well we will never see TES6 like we never saw warcraft 4
Money they sunk into development with large studio and servers ..they will never let it go so easily

ES is their flagship title. There is no way they would just stop making it. I'd be happy even if they brought it out in 2020. Imagine how much content would be in the game. How in depth everything would be. The world would be massive compared to even Skyrim I imagine.
Yes, be disappointed that it won't be for a while, but get excited that it may encompass all of Tamriel, or huge amounts of it.

Heard of Skyblivion or Skywind? Or the elsweyr, summerset and falskaar mods?
I would like if Bethesda made a solid base with a strong engine, so modders can go ham on making mods. atm i only enjoy skyrim because of the mods.

I feel you Psychoman, but the Elder Scrolls series is more popular than Warcraft. I can imagine it makes more money and has higher customer demand. We'll be seeing Elder Scrolls games for some time, as we will Fallout.

One thing Bethesda needs to learn, if your fans are asking for it, give it to them....... I love ESO, it's one of the better MMOs out there since it went B2P, but they need to put it on the back burner to work on the next Elder Scrolls game........ don't be like Sega, Capcom(until recently), Konomi, Blizzard, who all just do as they please and say FU to their fanbase.

Or like Bioware that is still screwing around with Star Wars TOR MMO instead of developing a new single player RPG of KotOR 3.

Very true....... I hadn't even thought about it, but yeah KOTOR 3 would be awesome, but they're too busy trying to milk SWTOR........ I kinda hate it when major game developers like this make an MMO, because after that, it seems like that's all they care about, everyone else can go F themselves we just want to milk the MMO.

LOL! Why wouldn't they wait for a long time? Most likely they will build a whole new game engine again so that the new game won't look like Skyrim. I believe that they will be waiting for better hardware to be released first & then start working on a whole new game engine & graphics engine that will take advantage of newer & stronger hardware of the future.
