Okay, stop whatever you’re doing, Hideo Kojima’s final Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer is here and it’s a beauty. The man’s indeniable talent for going from the sublime to the ridiculous is ably demonstrated by the heart-tugging opening three minutes, before seguing smoothly to a Metal Gear with a robot gun dick. Never change, Kojima. Never change.
This launch trailer for MGS 5 is actually directed by Kojima himself, rather than the disappointing Gamescom trailer scraped together by Konami. This is most likely Kojima’s final work on the series following his falling out with Konami, and the five-minute trailer takes a nostalgic look back at the long-running series before an incredible show-off with Metal Gear Sahelanthropus.
Now I should say, there’s a slow-motion bit slap bang in the middle of the trailer which I would say is a pretty heavy spoiler. If you want to avoid the spoiler then skip out 2:19 up until 3:00.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is out next Tuesday, September 1st, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Stay tuned to Game Debate for performance benchmarks across a range of systems of graphics cards, and make sure your own rig’s ready for the task by checking out the official MGS 5: The Phantom Pain system requirements.
