I have no idea how these are going to hold up in this day and age, although I’d hedge my bets on badly, but serial remasterer Night Dive has announced N64 classics Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and its sequel, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, are being given a bit of spit and polish and made compatible for modern PCs.

The original Turok came in 1997, followed by the sequel in 1999. Even at the time they weren’t exactly the belle of the ball, but it’s bows, cerebral bores and dinosaurs, so who are we to complain. Night Dive has previously worked on ports of System Shock 2 and I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, so expect minor graphical improvements and a few other tweaks under the hood.

"When Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was first released it was nothing short of revolutionary. To that point, no game had ever offered the combination of graphics and an open world environment that Turok featured," said Night Dive CEO Stephen Kick. "We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring this great franchise back to life and to be able to share these great titles with today’s gaming audience."

The iconic fog seems to have been toned down a little bit from the early screenshots; you can actually see more than six feet in front of the player, but everything else is just as you remember.

There’s no release date for Turok and Turok 2 on PC just yet, both both games will be available to buy on Steam, GOG, Humble Store, GamersGate, Green Man Gaming, and through Night Dive’s website.

Turok 2 was my childhood's one of my favorite games. Great to see it's back! With better graphics and compatibility I will love it!

I played both Turok and and Turok 2 on my N64. I'm not sure if the graphics will hold up with today's standards; even if they are remastered.

Who cares about the graphics? Most important is that it will work on new operating systems.

Sure, it will be great if they improve the looks, that isn't the main reason for these games being so good.

I have very fond memories of stalking people in Turok 2 multiplayer as the raptor.

I think this is extremely lazy, the game is clearly dated and is in need of a remake, not remaster, who wants to see a block of cubes in HD?

Picking this up on GOG as soon as it's out. I love my N64 but most of its games simply haven't aged well, especially the controls...

Turok 2 seeds of evil on N64 + the expansion pack+ the ocarina of time gold cartridge all in the same day. One of my fondest childhood memories. In the words of Leon...1998, I'll never forget it.

Ah, the memories. Those games were amazing and I remember I thought, "Graphics CAN'T get better than this!"... Haha, boy was I wrong..
