I didn’t think I’d ever be saying this about a Transformers game once Michael Bay had got his hands on the franchise and battered it into submission, but Transformers: Devastation is looking legitimately great. It’s an homage to Saturday morning cartoons and the third-person action games popularised two or three generations ago.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Bayonetta developer Platinum Games is heading up development on Transformers: Devastation and it’s imprint is clear to see. The action-packed brawler is all about stylish combos, blazing action and over the top set-pieces. What’s clear is you get to knock seven shades out of other big metal robots with your own big metal robot that can turn into a big fire-breathing metal dinosaur. I mean, what’s not to love?
There’ll be a total of five playable Autobots in Transformers: Devastation, comprising Optimisu Prime, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, Grimlock and Bumblebee. Each will have unique attacks, special moves and transformations, so if the combat’s anything like Platinum Games other titles, expect it to be frighteningly deep.
Activision’s handling publishing duties for this one, with a sooner-than-I-thought release date of October 6th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
