In news that will bring an army of armchair strategists weeping to their knees, Firaxis and 2K have announced that XCOM 2 has been delayed. The eagerly anticipated tactical, turn-based strategy game has been pushed back from its November launch and will now be arriving on February 5th, 2016.

The reasons the XCOM 2 development team have given for the delay are to fulfil the original ambitions, which are to ensure it improves on XCOM: Enemy Unknown in every way. The extra will be going towards adding more gameplay depth, replayability, and a deeper investment in the custom soldiers.

Hello XCOM fans", writes Firaxis.

We want to give you an update on the release date for XCOM 2. We’ve set a high bar for the sequel and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown. We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game.

With XCOM 2, we want to have more depth, more replayability, and more investment in your soldiers and this extension will give us the time we need to deliver on our promise to you.

We appreciate your patience and continued support as we move towards February. Good luck, Commander!

That’s another game off the Christmas list then, but at least it’s something to look forward to in early 2016. XCOM 2 is now launching on February 5th, 2016, exclusively on PC.

I don't mind having delays for games.
Quick question. Is it worth to play the first XCOM game before this one?

Totally worth it! With the sequel delayed, there is also time for the Enemy Within expansion, which makes the game even better.

Well isn't better for a developer to suck it up and admit that they need more time making a game rather than to release a game that isn't finished?

True!. But what I'm try to say is. The last 2 years the only thing we know about new games is "Sorry, but we need more time for....". Which is great because they take all the time they need. But i'm a little tier to read or see the same thing over and over, with every game and sometimes...

Continues...

and sometimes that time is just for DLC's and things like that. In resume, I don't know why they put a release date if they can't finish the game in time.

Yeah I understand, but it's sad that nowadays it's too much to ask for a game to be released on time AND have it working with no bugs.

Developers should take all the time they need for their games. Besides, this gives me something to do in February. I can't do much outside in the freezing cold!

This is getting beyond a joke now. 2015 should be known as the year of "Delays". I don't mind them taking more time to finish it but when you give a release date, then tell fans that its going to be delayed, its nothing but disappointment.

Oh please, boohoo. I live in Bangkok.Thousands are living on the streets in absolute poverty here, they don't have 20 bucks to their name. Don't act like a little kid because a game is postponed. "nothing but disappointment"...pfff

Everyone has their own problems. What do you expect from him? To apologize for being born in a wealthy family/country!?

Are you a child? How does a game being delayed relate to people in Poverty? You do realise that poverty is everywhere in the world, not just in Bangkok. I live in Scotland and poverty is pretty common over here too.

Thats right and prepare to get your ass kicked, normal xcom is not even on "tutorial" level for Long War, more like "point and click adventure" level :-D
