Need For Speed’s impressive tradition of cringeworthy trailers continues with a aplomb in the latest ‘Five Ways to Play’ footage. Crammed between hammy dialogue and some hilarious street racing culture segments there’s even a bunch of gameplay of the latest racer from Ghost Games.
We’re only about 8 weeks away from launch but details on Need For Speed have been pretty light. Here at last we find out about the five different ways you’ll be able to earn rep and progress in Need For Speed 2015 - Speed, Style, Build, Crew, and Outlaw. Performing in any of these five classes will earn you reputation, which is Need For Speed’s currency. “After all, reputation is what gets you respect on the street,” the trailer helpfully reminds us.
Earn enough rep and you’ll earn access to new events, cars and upgrades. Speed rep comings from speed events like Sprint Races and Time Attacks, and are unsurprisingly all about speed.
Style is about drift contests and gymkhana events, where total control over the car is rewarded.
Build revolves around building your own car completely from scratch and competing in events, with what Ghost Games are calling the deepest modification system in Need For Speed history.
As far as I can tell, Crew is about doing all of the above but with your street racing crew. Ideally that’s not an online-only crew and you can can team up with AI teammates, but it isn’t immediately clear.
Lastly there’s Outlaw, which is about winding up the bizzies basically. Playing as cops has been dropped for this outing, but you can still go toe-to-toe with them in car chases.
EA recently revealed Need For Speed would require an internet connection to play. It allows users to share Snapshots over the Need For Speed network, which can then be converted into currency.
Need For Speed is out in North America on November 3rd, and November 5th in Europe, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
