Latest Need For Speed Trailer Shows Five Ways To Play, But Offline Is None Of Them

Need For Speed’s impressive tradition of cringeworthy trailers continues with a aplomb in the latest ‘Five Ways to Play’ footage. Crammed between hammy dialogue and some hilarious street racing culture segments there’s even a bunch of gameplay of the latest racer from Ghost Games.

We’re only about 8 weeks away from launch but details on Need For Speed have been pretty light. Here at last we find out about the five different ways you’ll be able to earn rep and progress in Need For Speed 2015 - Speed, Style, Build, Crew, and Outlaw. Performing in any of these five classes will earn you reputation, which is Need For Speed’s currency. “After all, reputation is what gets you respect on the street,” the trailer helpfully reminds us.

Earn enough rep and you’ll earn access to new events, cars and upgrades. Speed rep comings from speed events like Sprint Races and Time Attacks, and are unsurprisingly all about speed.

Style is about drift contests and gymkhana events, where total control over the car is rewarded.

Build revolves around building your own car completely from scratch and competing in events, with what Ghost Games are calling the deepest modification system in Need For Speed history.

As far as I can tell, Crew is about doing all of the above but with your street racing crew. Ideally that’s not an online-only crew and you can can team up with AI teammates, but it isn’t immediately clear.

Lastly there’s Outlaw, which is about winding up the bizzies basically. Playing as cops has been dropped for this outing, but you can still go toe-to-toe with them in car chases.

EA recently revealed Need For Speed would require an internet connection to play. It allows users to share Snapshots over the Need For Speed network, which can then be converted into currency.

Need For Speed is out in North America on November 3rd, and November 5th in Europe, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

If you want to know any more about the upcoming racer, Felix has got you covered with his Need For Speed 2015 What We Know And Speculative System Requirements guide.

Why does the cars and the roads have to be wet all the time?

I guess they want to show us how good the game looks...

(cont) by pleasing the targeted audience and the people that left NFS. I hope that EA learns it's lesson by that might not, because their point of view is different from the GAMERS.

(cont) which won't use any internet or any other social media features. Again, I'm guess that EA is obsessed with DRM to a poisons degree. The chance of wiping "game crime" entirely is very very low, so it's best to wipe some/most of it

Looks like EA wants to have some control on that game. I mean when the game is online, they can easily drop the servers which will force users to either get the "newer" NFS or play the older one. EA could make a separate mode that's offline

This and Battlefront are what's wrong with today's game developers. Giving people a game they've been waiting for but adding stuff to it that people never asked for like being online all the time and no single player. This is not an MMO!

If the developers don't include a single player mode, i think most players won't give a rats ass about this game.

I have a feeling that something about this game is going to suck big time! Not sure what, but something is telling me "don't pre-order, it's going to suck".

We get loadshedding (energy company cannot supply enough power to the country so they turn off power to areas for like 4 hours). Its very rare that the internet is down (unless the copper phone lines have been stolen) so its not a huge issue, but for many 3rd world countries this online only gaming is going to be an issue because of connectivity and low internet speeds, unless they open servers in those countries i really don't the point purchasing a game with no single player.

What's with this weird culling of offline modes in games? Sometimes my internet is out, normally because my ISP is being crappy, and I want to play your game anyway. Is that too much to ask for?

The reputation system sounds a little like Underground 2 system where if you get first in a race, you get the cash but on by how much distance you win, builds your reputation.

This game looks really good, but I really don't trust EA's server support so after a few years i'm probably not going to be able to run this game because of no S-P
I'd rather have both good online and great story mode Single Player.

EA will shut the servers down after 1 year, not a few. EA is trying to go the online only route, which means nolonger going back and playing older ea games.

Love the title Joffy S, made me laugh.

All jokes aside, EA is probably going to mess this up, just saying.

They must really want this to be successful because they keep featuring the bmw from most wanted. I actually expected something new from the title, silly me..

Also if it's as it is on the trailer, i'm really disappointed on the 1st person camera. I mean gta v's is better and gta v isn't even a racing game cmon..

All they had to do is remastering Undeground 2... Perfect game. But no! NO! We are EA! We will f...k it up for u guys. Tease you, make promises and then charge you for any "special" car or "unique" modification!

EA have nfs world, what's the point in other online nfs?

Piracy reduce= more money, if this game doesn't get enough it's the end. Or that's what I think.

Wrong. The best option for reducing piracy is reducing the price for a game. More people would afford this game and EA would earn even more, but they don't care much...

That was exactly my thought. They never seem to learn that online only is the stupidest way to make a triple A game. EA just doesn't want to give up on pissing people off, it's like they enjoy having this hated reputation.
