Last year, two of the co-founders of Criterion Games left the company. Criterion games of course being renowned for their work on hit titles like "Burnout" and "Need for Speed". Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, looking for a fresh start away from EA games, formed the new studio Three Fields. Then news went relatively quiet, probably as they plotted and schemed. What games would they develop? When would they start?

And then on twitter this week they sent a couple of cryptic tweets into the world, teasingly announcing they've got several projects in the works.

I don't know about you, but if I were a game developer who deliberately left a company looking to do something else as part of a fresh start, I'd actually do something else. So how loosely the term "spiritual successor" will be applied, remains to be seen.

Either way, it should be interesting. The fact that they left EA to me means they likely had creative ideas they couldn't develop under EA. So maybe their following games will display what they actually intended for Burnout or Need for Speed to become. For better or for worse.

Since the original tweets, twitter has been rife with Burnout excitement, yet not a lot of people seem to care at all about the "multiplayer sports game" they mentioned. Maybe that was a little too vague to really catch on?

So, racing game fans, what is your take on this news? Excited? Enticed? Or not at all interested?

Burnout was one of my favorite games as a child, I would love to see a similar game made by the original devs!

I've been waiting a long time for a new burnout game. Burnout paradise was an okay game but burnout 2 & 3 were a lot better and I am hoping they create the game. I miss crash mode and unfortunately, Burnout Paradise didn't really have one but you could still start showtime which is not as good as crash mode.

Burnout 3 was one of my favorite games on the Playstation 2 of all time. My brother loved it as well. Paradise was just as good too.

This is just a request, but can Need For Speed please bring back splitscreen? Ever since that was invented my brother and I would always play together and have an indelible blast!

I have loved every burnout game i have played. I would be so happy if they would make a new one. Track based or open world, i don't care, as long as it feels like Burnout!

It'd be safe to say that I'd be happy with a spiritual successor to Burnout.
