AC Syndicate PC Game File Size At Least 40GB But What Cost To Download

AC Syndicate is likely to have a fairly massive PC hard drive footprint. With a 40GB file size revealed over on the XBox One Store.

This is around the same sort of hard drive space that last years Assassins Creed Unity used. Which makes sense, seeing as they share a similar build structure and graphics engine.

This sort of file size is par for the course nowadays. Once the next gen consoles arrived with their BlueRay discs, the modern big release games started to be a lot more loose with their hard drive space. The PC market on the other hand largely download their games via online retailers. So the time to install a game the size of Assassins Creed Syndicate can often be determined by the local broadband connection of the gamer.

We have run some articles in the not too distant past to take a look at some of these download speeds by region and so if you have an interest in that then pop over and take a look.

April 2013 GD Checks Out: Internet Speeds Of The World

Oct 2014 Average Game Download Sizes Are On The Rise, But What Is The Cost To The Gamer

Jan 2015 Up For Debate - The Ever Increasing Download Sizes Of AAA Games

I think this is likely to be the normal file size from now on guys. Is this ok with everyone? My net connection can deal with that, although it will take a few hours probably, but I imagine there are quite a few of you that are really hoping your ISPs will pull their fingers out and deliver a much better download speed.

Times to Download Assassins Creed Syndicate Based on Your Internet Connection Speed

SPEED TIME (hh:mm:ss)
256 Kbps 347:13:20
512 Kbps 173:36:40
1 Mbps 95:26:37
2 Mbps 47:43:18
5 Mbps 19:05:19
10 Mbps 08:53:20
20 Mbps 04:46:19
50 Mbps 01:44:34

Those results are presuming 100% bandwidth usage, which is very unlikely and will certainly experience some slight deviations. But I think it gives a good enough indication. Its a crazy amount of time to download anything in that sort of file size if you have less than a Mbps band width connection.

You can see from those linked articles above, that there is more to think about regarding the cost of your hard drive space and the cost of the internet download you have to perform in order to get the game on your PC. Not to mention how long it might take. We will be doing our annual Share your thoughts below.

Don't care about AC. My internet is a crapshoot since I'm running wireless from across the house IN AUSTRALIA. At best, I get 900 kbps on Steam, so ****

Well my internet download speed is quite consistent at 4.4/4.5 Mbytes (38Mbps), not that I would waste my time downloading an Assassin's Creed game that won't work properly.

my download speed is fine but steam is always randomly pausing my downloads and then restarting them after a few minutes. This causes the download to take a lot longer then it should so I still try to buy on disk

You mean when you start a game.
Steam will pause any download when you launch a game by default, you can disable that

Fortunately for me I have zero interest in the Assassin's Creed Franchise with the exception of Black Flag so this is of no concern to me.

Well this game size is not just the Assassin's Creed line, It's becoming the norm for AAA games in general so if you download any game in the near future the points of this article still apply to you

I was speaking only about the AC games. I'm well aware of this.

However there aren't many modern AAA games that interest me lately and the ones I do happen to have interest in aren't all that big anyway with the exception of Star Citizen which is 100GB (!!!)

Fallout 4 is supposed to be around 27-28GB. I remember reading an article about it somewhere. It was also tweeted out by someone from Bethesda Game Studios™.

I think what we should do is to wait 2-3 weeks, see if there any problems with the game and only then buy it after getting reviews from the internet and some people at least less corprate that make the fans hype for money.

And this is why i love disc based.1 they are usually a bit cheaper, ie i bought gta V on release date for 49.99e would have been 59.99e digital and probably a couple days download time. Plus the disc version are getting awesome editions.
