If reports are true when we won’t be getting a mainline Assassin’s Creed game in 2016, but we know for sure there’s still room for two spin-offs. We’ve had China, but there’s still Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India and Russia to come. The former is due out in just a few days, with Ubisoft revealing a brand new gameplay trailer to detail just how this 2.5D action game is going to play out, and it definitely looks a little familiar to old-school Prince of Persia fans.
Like China before it, ACC: India utilises a unique painted art style to depict gorgeous 3D backgrounds for all that two-dimensional slaying. Lead designer Matt Duff’s on hand to take us through it, showing new assassin Arbaaz Mir hopping about 19th century India, dealing with tensions between the Sikh Empire and those swines at the East India Company.
I haven’t actually got round to given AC China a go, but I’m definitely liking what I’m seeing here. In the absence of a Prince of Persia game from Ubisoft this seems like a great alternative, with that trademark slick platforming combined with nifty gadgets and stealth gameplay.
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is out on January 12th, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Looking out for the Russian follow-up about a month or so later.
