It's been 4 months since Call of Duty: Black Ops III was released and so it's right about the time Activision begin showing what's coming next for the series. Infinity Ward have announced on twitter that CoD 2016 is officially in development and many people seem to be hoping for a Modern Warfare 4.

Infinity Ward are the devs that brought us the ever revered Modern Warfare branch of the Call of Duty series, as well as Call of Duty: Ghosts. Many fans of the series have expressed a desire to return to the style of gameplay seen in Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 so it'll be interesting to see in which direction IW intend to take the series next.

Last year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 made $550 million in its first 3 days of release and seems to be the biggest launch since Black Ops 2. Activision have been blaming the transition to next-gen consoles as the reason for the dip in sales since then. If that is the case, with the return of Infinity Ward to developing the series it wouldn't take a gambling man to expect the Call of Duty 2016 to exceed that figure considering the success of Modern Warfare 2 and 3.

The Call of Duty 2016 release date hasn't been revealed yet but it won't be long before the Activision marketing machine kicks in so expect to hear more details soon.

underrated, because of the lack of good weapons, not only in CoD, but in general. The weapons that were used were the best available and weren't many per class/type and the gun balance will be really bad as well.

Part of me really hopes it's just called Call of Duty: 2016

The other part of me wonders why I'm so lonely in life.

There can't possibly be any correlation between the two.

Wait there's 3 different developing teams? Why?!

Activision has 3 companies developing the Call of Duty series: Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer and Treyarch. This is so each company has 3 years to develop a game and make a solid product. This also means Activision ensures a game comes out every year. Since Infinity Ward released a game in 2013, they'll release a game this year and Sledgehammer released a game in 2014 so their next game will be 2017.

Thanks for telling me this. I'm amazing at far they've gone to milk the series even more. Is anything coherent? Like every game has it's own lore... What's the point? What truly stands out from one Call of duty to thee other?

the gun mechanics between the CoDs are slightly different and unique to each of the devs, the MP map designs are unique to each dev, the weapon balance and damage model, the overall game balance. The movement system(not talking about nor excluding the booster packs/ thrusters from AW and BO3) is different and has different effect on the shooting. Of course the campaign and surival modes.

And on top of that you don't need to own each CoD game, just one in a cycle, that will keep things fresh.

So I think Treyarch may have finished the Black Ops storyline so they might be open to making a WWII game if they want or if Activision doesn't force them to. Sledgehammer will Continue with Advanced Warfare for awhile and Infinity Ward will continue with Ghosts since the Modern Warfare story is over.

Please make a return to WW2. I want a WW2 game with good graphics and all the fancy stuff we have today. I am sick of all this futuristic jumping and warping stuff. Battelfield 1942 was my favorite of Fps games for these reasons.

I hope not, if it's going to be like MW2 and MW3, I don't mind it if they call it MW4, but let it be like ghosts, with slight tweak to the level design, so that it has less camp spots, because Ghosts has near perfect net-code, near perfect gun-balance, near-perfect map design and is just better overall, compared to the poor mw2 and mw3 design and net-code in MW3, mw2 and mw3 had good gun balance, but it does have it's super broken weapons.

I'm also hoping for modern warfare 4. black ops 2 and 3, ghost, & advance warfare didn't have a solid storyline. Just some crappy short stories where it won't have any expansion series.

Well i just hope it doesn't. I personally feel like BF Hardline was pretty off the series. I just hope they continue war games not any crime stuff or anything similar. The game mechanics are very different and the game style is pretty different too. COD is all CQB while BF is focused on large areas and vehicles. They may seem similar but they are not. I am no BF nor COD fanboy but i would not compare them , BF4 firstly came unfinished... With the new BF 5 coming out i doubt it will be similar to COD. The stories are similar tho (all the war and stuff) but the gameplay is very different.

You may not realize it, but the way maps are designed forces CQB, Battlefield is less and less like the original Battlefields. Also, and this is a personal experience, the game feels like it's no longer team oriented like yeah you have medic, sniper, Heavy, etc. But, ultimately no uses them properly, every match I'm in there is no team chat, there is no team work, everyone just goes lone wolf ignoring the main objection, ignoring when a player needs a lift-

ignoring you when you needs ammo, health, and a revive. No plays Battlefield like they should be in my opinion. People care more about jumping out of a jet at 2 thousand feet in mid-air and getting a no scope shot. (Not implying this is every match) I think Battlefield is unbalance with the ridiculous amount of armored vehicles ( and helicopters) spawning and how long it take to eliminate them and take in account of the lack of teamwork... I would keep going.

PCEGamer what you pointed out there is basically why i stopped playing bf.no teamwork, like it used to be and like it should be and way too many vehicles spawning fast(if there was a longer spwan time or a limited number of vehicles per game that would've been better) so i just go play CoD,because there is no need for teamwork, small maps,no vehicles, just going solo having fun

you are totally right about the team work man. The only time you can get some team work is if you pre-made your squad. The BF4 maps are still large enough but i dunno for future games tho. I hope they don't shrink them. We don't need CQB maps because it would render a lot of game modes useless. The vehicle part , you can't expect to destroy a tank all by yourself and if you try, it can really give you a hard time, that's why this game needs more team play. I would suggest moving in groups whenever you can. COD is CQB but is full of camper spots, it can be fun sometimes but when you get killed so many times by campers it becomes frustrating. BF also has a lot of camp spots but due to the scale of the map the chance of someone passing by u for a 100% kill is pretty small.

I think that Hardline was pretty off point or unneeded to the series. I hope the new game will be similar to BF3/4 with large maps and nice game balance :)

Neither do I, place your hits right, fire and make sure to take cover. But before I realize it there's a another tank or helicopter on the next corner. Like I've mentioned before, team work is essential and when no one is helping the game can be frustrating.

yeah the spawn time is the problem.because it's damage and health are good and you can destroy it solo(a bit hard tho),but as it happened to me just destroyed a tank and a dude with a heli killed me out of nowhere, while my teammate with the jet was randomly flying above the heli.#teamwork #****logic

If it was a COD game every 2-3 years with free and constant updates I would definitely buy it. But I don't wanna pay money for a game that gets old in less than a year.

Also every CoD now is made in 3 years, it's just three studios that release a game each year and besides the name "Call of Duty", they are quite different between each other and after every cycle(cycle = IW game -> 3arc game -> sledge hammer game, end of cycle repeat) CoD gets improved quite a bit.
