Quantum Break Will Not Be Coming To Steam Says Microsoft

In an age where it seems Steam is the undisputed king of digital sales platforms, it's become increasingly rare for a publisher to keep their game off the Steam as you'd be hard pushed to find a PC gamer who doesn't actively use their Steam account. Having already stirred a bit of a buzz over the system requirements for Quantum Break, Microsoft have also revealed that the game will be a Windows Store Exclusive when it releases on 5th April.

This latest information was revealed by Aaron Greenberg, Head of Xbox Games Marketing during Major Nelson's podcast this week. It seems quite a strange choice considering how much they're limiting their available audience both through setting the hardware bar for their game extremely high and then keeping their game off Steam.

I personally prefer to have games on Steam so they're all in one place but I know many people feel that Valve have too much control over what consumers actually own. I'd imagine Microsoft Studios and Remedy Games feel a similar way and are trying to push the Microsoft Windows Store into more direct competition with Steam.

What do you guys think? Was it a mistake to keep Quantum Break off Steam or are you happy another digital sales platform has an exclusive?

I actually don't mind, I'm not really into steam anyway. Rather buy a real disk with the game on it. Feels more like i actually bought something, And I can place it on my shelf :P

The moment that it was said that it would be a 'Windows 10 exclusive' should of been enough for people to realise it wouldn't come to Steam, I'm not sure how I feel about this, I've been on Win 10 since launch but I've literally never gone into the Windows store so I've no idea whether it's terrible or not. :l

Well there is no meaning to do that unless they gain something :). It's fair enough imo.

Trying to promote their store and OS this way isnt greedy or bad I think. Their persistent tries to enforce windows 10 on previous windows users with constant notifications and updates comes extremely close to that though...

So let me get this straight, they are going to put and good looking game on a ****tier market place so it gets little to no sales at all instead of going all out on Steam like they should of have.

For me, it really depends on the game itself. I may be in the minority, but I don't really mind having to use multiple accounts. Considering I'm a multi-console gamer, by nature I already need multiple gaming accounts, and having to use a couple more isn't really a big deal to me.

Windows Store or not, whether I buy the game depends on if it's good or not.

It took me a long time to even accept to use Origin - Only got it to get Most Wanted for free, and that's probably the only game I'll ever have on Origin, buuuut, anyway: Windows Store? It's probably better to settle for the XOne in this case...

The only reason I got Origin originally was because of Mass Effect 3 when it released as an Origin exclusive. I already had the first two games from before Origin existed, & I wanted to finish the trilogy with my original character. Aside from that I haven't bought any games for Origin. I have registered some of my (pre-Origin) EA games to have them added to my Origin account though such as the first two Mass Effect games, the first two Dead Space games, & a few others.

same here, most wanted free
that's actually why they're giving it away for free it the first place, I think
yes, they even said they want more people to check out their origin store
hmm, so far it's not that bad, but, yeah haven't bought anything there doe

I prefer to keep everything as unified as possible. I have chosen Steam to be that unifying client. It sucks to be forced into extra game clients for no good reason. Uplay & Origin are not really bad anymore, but they are unnecessary while Steam exists. I hate how fractured everything is & Microsoft is just fracturing everything even more now with this move of only releasing this new game through their Windows Store/Windows Live reborn.

They do know that this is gonna hurt sales right? I mean this is going kinda far just to push people to use windows store.

eh, they lost any chance of me legitimately buying it, I can get steam gift cards, windows store ones don't exist (and I don't have a credit/debit card, or use of paypal). If you ask me it's about just getting all of the profits themselves to pad their own pockets, instead of splitting with Valve.
