It's flying very low under the radar right now, but Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is sprouting in a week's time. The last one was an under-appreciated gem, and was a great third-person shooter take on the eternal battle between walking foliage and the undead.
Built in the same Frostbite engine powering Star Wars Battlefront, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is also quite a looker. The super stylised visuals help this 24-player online shooter really stand out from the crowd. Clearly Popcap has got its hands on bags and bags of fertiliser, because these system requirements for Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 have absolutely shot up in comparison to its predecessor. It should be stressed however that the minimum requirements are still pretty reasonable, but should you want to turn on every graphical option you're going to need to have the hardware to back at it up.
Down at the lower end these are a reasonable set of minimum specs for PvZ: Garden Warfare 2. Remember as well this is a large-scale third-person multiplayer shooter rather than the top down tower defense of the mainline series, which makes it a heck of a lot more demanding. Still, both the GeForce GT 640 and the Radeon HD 5750 are extremely low-end graphics cards by today's standards, so you're unlikely to bump into many problems. The processors are a bit more an issue, but a decent dual-core CPU should suffice.
All in all, those minimum specs are alright. Take a glance at the recommended specs for Garden Warfare 2 however and everything changes. This is a bit of a beastly setup here, and it's the latest in an increasingly long line of titles demanding users have 16GB RAM. Gulp. Windows 10 is recommended, while EA and Popcap plump for the latest generation of Skylake CPUs wit the Core i5-6600 processor.
Interestingly the installation size is doubled for recommended, suggesting there's some higher resolution textures tucked away in an optional installation. The 20GB difference is nothing to sniff at.
Obviously there's a massive gulf between the minimum and recommended specs for Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, suggesting this is one game designed to work on a massive variety of gaming rigs. Once things get hectic those with a steady frame rate are going to have a significant advantage, so it will be worth dialling a few settings down if your PC's struggling a little.
